ch artists as: Kanaginak,
Sharer, Padlo, Maya, Lucy
and a host of others have their
work on display at the Central
Huron and upon careful
examination one is able to
make a careful study of their
printmaking methods.
Most of the artists from the
Cape Dorset region follow
early European techniques
where the artist creates the
design and his work is then
produced by an expert block -
cutter and printer.
After the completion of
printing, the stone block
stencil or metal plate is
destroyed, thus insuring the
uniqueness of each edition of
prints. Of the different
techniques of printmaking
used sealskin stencil, stone
cut ' and various engravings
are used most frequently.
To truly enjoy this
exhibition of Eskimo art—one
must pay a visit to the library
of CHSS, and add a little
culture to your life.
