see after the necessary harbor hriprove-
ments,
Negotiation§ are still in progress with
prominent citizens of London, having in
view the extention of the L, H. & B. R.
to this place, Bayfield has much to com-
mend it as a lake port terminus. A fair
harbor, and fertile farming country con-
tiguous to it, and so healthy as to be a
natural sanitarium. We are bouncltohave

last week and made it very good catch of
fish. Some snipe were seen but not mo-

cursion to Port Stanley on the 251h inst.,
that being Civic Holiday for Orediton and
surroundina•.villages. This promises to
be the bestexcursion of the season. Come
one and all and enjoy the breezes of Lake

Hay Council.
At a meeting of the council held Aug.
3i•cl, it was moved and carried that the
sum of $65 be paid, Mr. Geo. O'Brien, for
the road. allowance, on Blind line, oppo-
site lot 11 con. 4. The reeve and trea-
surer were authorized to borrow 8600, to
meet current expenses, to be repaid on or
before the lst January nex,4. The clerk
was instructed to notify the collector to
present his bond with. good and sufficient
sureties to the council, at its next meet-
ing for approval.
Moved by Mr. Kalbfleisch, sec. by Mr.
McEwen, that a rate of 2i mills on the
dollar be levied on the taxable property
of the township, to raise the sum of $4,-
051.31, for county purposes, 1 mills to
Ieasy Items of interest.

Spelling Reform.

originated in England, so did a great many
other inventions, such as the railways, home
rule and six -months' parliaments. How lit
