Rh1d11 protests closing
with rota boycott
Despite a strong feeling in
his Huron -Middlesex riding
that the government should
have been brought down.
Liberal MPP Jack Riddell
said Tuesdayhe couldn't vote
for an election now.
His absence r.r * Monday's
non -confidence vote - where
the Liberals voted with the
government to defeat the
NDP motion - was his way of
"showing -total displeasure
with the government's
restraint program" without
favoring an unnecessary
election now.
Part of the program in-
cludes the closure of Clinton
Hospital and Goderich
Psychiatric, Hospital. Mr.
Riddell said that although
about half of his constituents
wanted an• election now, he
felt he couldn't "in good
conscience" vote for one.
An election now, he said.
STOP
BOTH DIRECTIONS
FOR A
SCHOOL BUS
could have resulted in a
majority for win Prdmier
William Davis and "u, clear
mandate for him to continue
his inhumane and insensitive
restraint program.''
He said another part of his
decision not to vote against
the government was the fact
that closure of the Clinton
Hospital is still under active
consideration "and I didn't
want in any way to affect the
decision which the present
government will make on
that."
