An excellent gymnastics program is also available at the Vanastra Centre. Sheila 11 1c Murtfie instructs the ladies gym -swims and the gymnastics program. Four years of high school gym- nastic training led. Sheila Into her present interest in the field. Sheila has taken three courses in teaching new techniques in gymnastics. For two years. Miss McMurtrie instructed girls gymnastics (ages 7 to 15 years) for the Borough of Scarborough, Parks and Recreation board. Another year was spent with the Scarborough Board as head instructor of gymnastics. Sheila is presently head in- structor at the Saturday program of gymnastics and ballet in Exeter as well as instructing the programs in Vanastra. John Lawson instructs the men's gym -swim program and health spa for men. (Wed- gesdays 7-8 p.m. and Thur- sdays 7-8 p.m.) John was unit physical education instructor with the Canadian Armed Farms in various countries of Europe. In 1972 John was at the C.F. B. Clinton when it was phased out. For two years, Mr. Lawson instructed a men's gym program at the Clinton High School and in 1975, he came to Vanastra to instruct the gym courses. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings John is in the health spa. He can teach you in- dividually to know the equipment, design a personal program for you and then you are on the road to fitness. The aquatics spring program at the Vabastra Centre offers something for everyone. Parent and tot swims for Prominent agricultural man dies A man who was prominent in Huron and Ontario agricultural circles for 40 years. W.J. Gordon McGavin of ER 2, Seaforth died Thursday, in Seaforth Com- munity Hospital. Mr. McGavin was born in McKillop, the son of the late John and Estelle (Berry) McGavin He attended school at Leadbury, farmed in McKillop and founded McQavin Farm Equipment in Walton in 1936. Mr., McGavin was parr - ocularly active in the Ontario Plowman's Association. He was president of the OPA for four years and headed committees that organized the 1946 and the 1966 Inter- national Plowing Matches in Huron County. Mr. McGavin was named champion Plowman at the International Plowing match in Niagara Falls in 1926. In 1958 he managed the Canadian team at the World Plowing Match in wet Germany. For 16 years, Mr. McGavin was a member of the Seaforth District High School 'ward and he was chairman for , several years. He was a past president of the Huron and McKillop Liberal associations and a Liberal candidate in the 1963 federal election. Mr. McGavin ,_las, a member of the Seaforth Lions Club. and Britannia Lodge No 170 AF and AM, Malloch Chapter No. 66. Seaforth. He was past master of the lodge and a past patron of the Order of the Eastern St.ar. He was a member of Northside United Church. Seaforth. He is survivied by his wife. the former Florence E. Stewart, whom he married in 1931: two sons. John S. of Thornbury and G. Neil of Walton: one daughter Elizabeth, Mrs. William Dinsmore, Brampton: one sister, Jennie, Mrs. Wilbur Farmers urged to apple for stabilization claims Agriculture Minister Eugene Whelan recently urged farmers to apply now if they have money coming to them from the government's cow slaughter or beef stabilization programs. "I am concernedAtat some producers who areigiible for payments have not yet made claims to the Agricultural Stabilization Board," Mr. Whelan said. "I am extending the deadline for claims under the two stabilization programs to April 30, 1976, and I urge eligible producers to get their claims in so they may be considered for payment." The cow slaughter stabilization program was in effect from November 16. 1974. to April 311, 1975. Producers who sold cows during that period can claim ,a payment of $5.08 per hun- dredweight (liveweight), on up to five per cent of their herd. The beef stabilization program for the year August 12, 1974. to August 11. 1975, offers a payment of 48 cents a hundredweight (liveweight) for all A, B and C quality cattle sold for slaughter during that time. Claim forms for both programs are available from packing plants, public stockyards, sales barns, agricultural representatives and staff of Agriculture Canada's Livestock Division across the country. Box Funeral Home, Friday night by the Eastern Star. the I ions club, the Masonic Lodge and the Seaforth District High School Girls Trumpet Band. The largely ;qatende.d fural services were held Saturday afternoon with Rev. M.E. Reuber officiating. Interment followed in Brussels Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Robb, Neil Hopper, William Coutts, Merton Rockwell, Ian Matheson and Neil McDonald. Honorary pallbearers were Simon Hallahan, Russell Bolton, Roy Bennett, Cliff Robb, Graham Kerr and Dr. M.W. Stapleton. Learn to swim programs for all ages as well as programs for all levels of swimming skills are on going courses and you are welcome to join at your own level with the Spring registration. ' Diane Purnin, Marlene Foxton and Kathy Bruxer are three of the Vanastra aquactics instructors and all are qualified Royal Life and Red Cross Instructors. Linda Clarke. a member of the staff, is a qualified examiner for Royal Life Saving Society.
