The Mustangs Friday night 8-8 win was by far the most exciting game seen in Clinton in some time as the Mustangs twice battled back from four and three goal deficits to win the game. The Stangs were down 4-0 after the first frame, and battled back to a 4-4 tie, only to fall back to a 7-4 near -loss before coming alive in the third period and scoring four unanswered goals to win the game. Six different Mustangs figured in the scoring, in- cluding Paul Priestap, Rob Heard, John Graham, Brian Kennedy, Brian Lane. and Paul Kelly. As of presstime Wed- nesday, no dates, times, or places had been set for the rest of the seven game series against Tillsonburg, so watch the local stores for posters. Seaforth curling news Congratulations are in order for a number of winners this week. The finalplayoff game of the Cornp.etition League was won last Wed- nesday by Rob Robichat d's team' with Neil Hemingway, Vice; Joe Wilson, second and Donna Hemingway, lead.. A playoff on Sunday for the winner of the first draw in the Junior Club, saw David Ste. Marie with Liz Pryce, Jeff Hackwell and Karen Laverty defeat John Prireau's team for top spot. Playoffs for a winner in the Mbted League_ saw Bob Ste. Marie's team with Dianne McKay, Elgin Shade - and Irene Okahaski claim the hohours. -43n February 28, two &eaforth rinks entered a mixed bonspiel in Exeter. Taking second prize were Glen and Lois Hayter with Neil and Loretta Dolmage. Also in on the fun were Bill and Marg Fleming with Don and Wendy Tremeer. The Vanastra Ladies Open Bonspiel on Saturday, March 6 was dominated by the Seaforth rinks. Taking first prize on the 9 a.m. draw was Marjory Papples rink with Kay Sharp, Marg Sallows and Gloria Riley. First prize on the 11 a.m. draw went to Marg FIeming's rink with Anne Cunningham, Lorraine Denomme and Wendy Tremeer. Also curling in that bonspiel were Sharon Wilson and Millie Lobb. At a Men's Bonspiel in Goderich on Saturday March 6, Bob Ste Marie, Bob Fotheringham, Murray Forbes and Lloyd McKenzie took third prize. A rink of ladies consisting of Lois Hayter, Marg Fleming, Marion Willson and Sheila Murray travelled to Palmerston to defend the trophy which they won last year in the Ladies' Open Bonspiel. They won two games and lost one, putting them out of the prizes. Silver Tankard Com- petition begins on Sunday March 14. The two teams entered from the Seaforth Club are Bob Wilson's and Dr. Alexander's. Governor General's Competition also begins on Sunday March 14, in Harriston. Seaforth will be represented by Graham .Sholdice's 'team. and Rob Robichaud's team. The Ladies' Fun Day has been changed from March 23 to March 16. The ladies' general meeting will be held at that time. Please plan to attend ladies. Mrs. Miller will be catering the meal. Members, keep in mind the final pot luck _ supper and general meeting. At press time, the date had not yet been set, but it will be sometime early in April. The ninth 50-50 Club Draw was won by Wayne Dolmage. Vanastra Curling news We must go back to February to catch-up on our Vanastra curling news. On Saturday, February 28, the Legion District Senior Curling- Bonspiel was held, and on Sunday, February 29, the Ontario Hydro Employees were curling. Last Saturday, March 6, the Vanastra Curling Club hosted the Ladies Bonspiel spon- sored by The Old Mill (one mile south of Blyth). The, first draw winners were from Seaforth, skipped by Kay Sharp. Second in the first draw was a team skipped by Robyn Thiedom of the Vanastra club. Barb Hawkins of Goderich skipped the third place team • in the first draw. The second draw winners were: first place, Seaforth, skipped by Marg Fleming; second place, Georgetown, skipped by Karen Henderson; and third place Goderich, skipped by Maxine Martin. The male members of the Vanastra club prepared and served a delicious lunch of homemade soup. sandwiches and butter tarts. In the evening, the men served a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, ° and pie for dessert. Siitty=four curlers •�participated-in the bonspiel ;r... Prizes presented by the Old Mill were blankets, gloves and sheepskin ruga. Coming events at the Vanastra club include a mixed jitney planned for , Saturday, March 13. On Sunday March 7, the Knights of Columbus were pleased to welcome the Shriners and Masons for a day of curling. Prizes were did by the Stratford, Seaforth and Goderich Knights of Columbus Councils. The Junior Mustangs surprised the Listowel team, beating them four straight games to win the series. The Stangs open against Tillsonburg tonight in the next round. (News-Recordphoto) Pu'' "A's" down Seaforth two straight The second game of the Pee Wee "A's" consolation play- off with Seaforth found Clinton on the winning end of a 6-2 score. The "A"s were, able to keep the play in the opposition's end for a good percentage of the game, proving once again that if you keep shooting at the net, the puck will go in. Tony Gibbings'scored twice with singles going to Jim Fleming, Ian Peck, Mike Wilson and Sean Van Dongen. The third game of this series in Clinton on Saturday was a thriller for the home town fans. A scoreless first -period was turned in by both . teams. Things opened up in the CKN X Try-Hards Last Sunday night, the Clinton Wildcats, sponsored by the Clinton Lions Ciub, and the CKNX Try-Hards clashed in a close benefit hockey game. The Try-Hards beat the Wildcats with a score of 13-11. we think! Some local , residents say they may protest the game, as they are sure the refereeing was "a little bit crooked". Members of the Clinton Wildcat team were Newt second with eight goals being scored. 'the Clinton"A"s lead 3-1 at the seven minutes. The last period turned the game around for the hometowners as they scored four to make the score 7-6. Jeff Taylor had a well deserved hat trick for the day Boughen wins The Clinton Mustang's Jr. C stags held Friday, February 27, proved to be a great success. Larry Dew, manager of the hockey team, reported that the team made $2,200 in profits which will support the team. whip Wildcats Collins as goaltender, Jerry Hlltze, Mike Quinn, Don Colquhoun, Basil O'Brien, Sid MacCauley , Dave Pugh, Craig Cox, Gordie Glen, Randy Blake and Bill Crawford. Approximately $100 was raised for the Clinton Save The Hospital Fund. with Paul Stephenson getting two Tony Gibbings and Brent Dais; each posted singles. Roy Brown played three of the four. periods in the net in the first game which ended in a 4-4 tie. Mike Wllliscraft played the next two games. The series stands at two wins for Clinton and one tie. $500 stag The big winner of $500 was James Boughen of Clinton.
