Exeter (and I sincerely mean that!) as our Federal government is own Women's Auxiliary can ts to Lack of communication Dear Editor: Mr. Davis and Mr. Miller are in serious trouble now, because of lack of com- munication. Mr. Stanfield never could communicate either. When the Liberals walk around the block or sing a tune it's big news. A party must get their actions to the public fast, because events happen fast in tliese times and it's to the party's ad- vantage to do so. The reasons for the OHIP - cutbacks and hospital closings were in the big Metro er: dailies where their repo are, but practically no press in the small dailies where the closings were. The annual budget for OHIP is 63 billion and rising 20 percent each year. Through use and abuse, 75 percent of this is for salaries. It could bankrupt Ontario as nearly half the total provincial budget is going for health now. This year the Ottawa cutting back- on gran OHIP which they inaugurated in the first place in 1968. The Liber' ais paid 50 per- cent of the budget, This year they will cut back to 13 per- cent. Next year they will cut back to 10.5 percent. The bill is going through the third reading in Ottawa now. Mr. Davis should have put a full page ad in all the dailies in Ontario explaining these cuts but we heard nothing. It again proves lack of com- munication at proven when Mr. Miller was making his rounds. Radio and TV chats would have been good too. Welch As for Wintario, Mr. says it is only-- a drop in the bucket. However I thiniki its might help along hospital lottery. Also, write Ottawa and your Federal MP to get the grants back to 50 percent and your job. Sincerely, Mrs. B. Anderson, Stratford. Could have died Dear Editor: Since I have been home, there has been a lot of talk about the closing of e Clinton Hospital. I often wonder if it had been closed. could I have made it to some distant hospital, if not. who would have been responsible for my death, Mr. Miller, or Mr. Davis? The Federal Conservative Party have made great strides forward last week electing their new leader, but how do they think they are going . to get any vote of Yours truly, displays the same attit`iide. Fortunately we do not live Kay McGee. in the Colonel's time, ter I have heard tempers that OHIP costs out of control tell you of the many volunteer hours and dollars they have contributed to this hospital, and now to have this ADULT render it useless. I do .notwish to see anything taken away from Exeter, that they already have, but in this period of restraint, how can anyone justify one Hospital getting approval to move ahead, while others in the same area are being closed, and given cuts in their budgets. Why take away what is already here? Won't someone PLEASE LISTEN! • Sincerely, (Mrs.) T. Elierby confidence out of - this area where they are closing essential hospitals and ser- vices? I read in this morning's paper they are giving the Art Gallery and theatre 1.4 million dollars. I know this -is Wintario grants, but wouldn't it be better spent inewhich care than something doubt no more thn ever percent of the people see? Adam Flowers Bayfield CLINTON PUBLIC HOSPITAL ANNUAL MEETING MONDAY, MARcH 15, 1976 at 7:30 P.m• CLINTON COUNCIL CHAMBERS Deair Editor: The following letter is a copy sent to Health Minister Frank Miller. Dear Mr. Miller You say that OHIP costs are out of control and must be cut. This is a justifiable project for your ministry at this time, but your approach to the problem is wrong. Your assistants seem to think that four hospital beds ' per thousand population red sufficient in Ontario, the: efore. you assume that there is a surplus of some 90 beds in Huron County. However. to close Clinton Hospital. in order to correct this surplus situation, is a grave error. It shows a complete disregard for human values in the wide area serviced by this hospital.
