By Rev. Wm. Bennett
I love lent. 1 try to examine
myself and thereby discover
the "Joie de Vivre". I- do -not
observe it by "don'ts and
restrictions". Our Prayer
Book helps us to live and act
more thoughtfully towards
.our neighbours and to spend
more time with God.

given in the Prayer ' Book.

Ihave a friend who hates
lent. He says that it is
gloomy. too long, out -dated. I
tell him, we have Just seen the
Winter Olympic Games on
TV. To observe Lent is much
like a young Canadian
preparing himself or herself
for the Games. One.Coach of
the Canadian Team said
"Canadians need to work
harder in order to win. our
life is too affluent."
To you and me. in the
Church. this observation may
apply. The reason for
spiritual, exercise is that we
may grow. #n the simplest
terms, this means to love
God. to love our neighbours
as ourselves. to keep our
appointments with God in his
House. Additionally, we can
read his Word and hold a
quiet time. Try it this Lent

The Book of
Observations
Chapter One,
by Augie
In the days when William
was Ruler of the Land called
Over Spendaric, there lived a
man whose name was D'arcy.
He was the keeper of the
treasure. but. like his
predecessor. John. and many
before him, he squandered
the riches of the land. W illiam
did not ` interfere because
many of William's friends did
receive fat contracts for the
tasks they performed.
Then it came to pass that
all' the treasury disappeared
and D'arcy said unto W i Ilia m.
What to do? For now there
was a shortage of many
millions of gold pieces. and
William borrowed from other
lands at high rates of interest
and levied taxes on his own
people to pay the loans.
But it was not enough. The
only people who had any
money left were William's
friends and he did not want to
tax them any more.
So W illiam said unto
Darcy. "Not to worry' not to
worry!". And William went to
Frank and said "You ..ire .e
doctor. you fix it and Frank
said "Let us close a few
hospitals." and it was done
