Seafotth had a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period, but Clinton Christian school •wins hockey tournament Friday, February 20 was the long awaited culmination of several weeks of hockey practice as the, hockey team from Clinton and District Christian. School won a tottrnament, beating Strathroy. 6-5, London 11-0, and Woodstock 7-0. The grade eight pupils along, with a selection of players from grade seven, made a trip to Woodstock to play in the Woodstock District School's hockey tournament. Enthusiasm Was high but in spite of it and because of the watchfiliness of the two coaches, Mr. Siertsema of Blyth and Mr. John Bakker of Goderich and the presence of the _principal Mr. Ralph Schuurman and several other chaperones. the drive was made in safety. For the players, the day was to be long, exhausting and thoroughly enjoyable. Of the six Christian schools from the district, Clinton had the - dubious honour of drawing for its first game, the Lion, the large Strathroy school. The game was tense as the score bounced back and forth like a ping-pong ball. The decisive goal was scored by Richard -Te Brinke as be put the Clinton team ahem:1.6-5. • Thanks to a hat trick from Stephen Siertsema and a goal each from Edwin Cosmon and Alan Bakker, the intrepid Clinton Mouse had felled the Strathroy Lion and. as fur- ther games were to prove. she had removed the big cat from his throne for the first time in years'. , Between games, the layers took their much needed breaks and watched Woodstock eliminate Aylmer and Strathroy eliminate St. Thomas. Clinton's second and third game were very much an anti -climax. Having removed Strathroy, the main obstacle, they methodically erased London 11-0 and then Woodstock 7-0. The games were over and for the first time ever, Clinton was victorious. Congratulations boys, coaches, supporters. You played a clean game well and came home proving that in the area of hockey too, the Clinton and District Christian school is a mouse to be reasoned with. Ian Peck scored his second goal of the game for Clinton to tie the game at the end of two periods. No goals for either team in the third period forced a ten minute overtime. Darrell Pastill put one away for, Clinton to take the lead, but Seaforth tied it again, At the 8:30 mark, Seaforth went ahead 4.3 and pretty well convinced everyone that the game was over. Hard work and determination on the part of Clinton paid off when Paul Stephenson scored to make it 44 at the 9:41 mark of the overtime. The game ended as a tie due to the ice being scheduled for another game. Seaforth curling news USED CARS A number of 75's in Pontiacs.
