Arrangements were made for the February birthday party at'Huronview. Mrs. W. Colclough and Ws. C. Elliott will look after .the program arrangements. • It was decided to serve coffee and a Lunch gain this year at the Winter 'Carnival Card party February 4th. A discussion on holding a card party for the Institute in February followed,. but, because of weather,. con- ditions, it was 'decided to hold one the afternoon of March 17th. Subscriptions to the A.C.W.W. magazine are due. Roll call was bringing or telling of your oldest book, which was very interesting. The oldest one was the works and will of John Bunyon 1860. (News -Record photo) • • onner Turnberry reetr dies in local hospital • A former reeve of Turn - berry Township and a lifelong •resident •of the area, Alvin ,unn Smith' of Biuevale, passed away at the Wingham and District Hospital -on January 22, following a ' lengthy illness. Born December 23, 1902, in West Wawanosh Township, Mr. Smith was a .son of the late John Smith. and Emily • Black. He attended school in --Turnberty Township and was totirietor of a store in Bluevale. He ,also served as postmaster in Bluevale for 35 years, retiring in 1967. In addition to pis par- ticipation in municipal government, he also served for a number of years on the Turnberry Township School Board. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Bluevale; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 180, Wingham; and a life member of Masonic Lodge No. 286, Wingham AF couple mark 60th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Roy Consitt . +celebrated their - 60th wedding anniversary wit -an„, Open House at their homes at - 63 King Street in Hensall recently. Mr. Consitt and the former Ethel Zapfe were married January 9; 1916 at the home of her parents at Blake. After their marriage, the couple lived for four years in Stanley township before moving to a farm on Con - session 4 of Tuckersmith "ykwnship. They continued firming until moving to their present home in Hensall in 1956. For 10 years Mr. Consitt was custodian of thekHensall -Public School. They have two sons, John of Hensall and Roy of Tuckersmith; seven gran- dchildren; and one great grandchild. They were guests of honour at a family dinner at the B Urk ley Restaurant in Exeter. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the RCAF. Surviving are his wife, the former Elsie Thornton of Bluevale, Whom he married July 1,1933, in Fordwich; a daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and'George McCune of ,Breslau; three grand- children, Heather Philip and Alison; one sister, Mrs. Hugh (Lavina) Berry ' of Brucefield; and one brother, Joseph of Shuter Street, W Ingham. He was predeceased by two brothers, Elmer and Lawson, and an infant sister. The late Mr. Smith rested at the R.A. Currie and Son Funeral Home, Wingham, where funeral service was conducted Saturday J -an. 24 by Rev. Robert H. Arm- strong, assisted by Wayne Baswick. Interment followed in the Wingham Cemetery. Pallbearers were Niel Edgar, Ross Jamieson.
