• Country Fair, theoventopens
Friday night when the
exhibits go on display, in the
arena; but the 'big- day is
Saturday.
Kicking off the big day will
be the ever popular parade
down main street to the Fair
grounds, starting at 12:30
p.m.
Although organizers ex-
, pected a larger crowd, the
2ndannual Potpourri arts and
.craft show held last friday
and -Saturday in the Clinton
arena should be a modest
financial success.
Ina Fisher, one of the shows
• organizers, said that over
1,400 persons paid to see the
show that featured a wide
range of handicrafts and
antiques from 61 .exhibitors,
and they had hoped for a
•crowd of 2,000 to 3.000.
Mrs. Betty Hutchings of
Sarnia Street in Hayfield is in
serious condition in
University Hospital in
London following a two -car
head on crash on the Bayfield
-Road, about a toile and a half
south of Clinton. on Saturday
night.
Mrs. Hutchings, 34, the
mother of three young
children, was pried from the
wreck by police and am-
bulance officials and is listed
in critical condition in
hospital, Suffering from a
skull fracture and' several
broken bones.

A committee of Councillors
Ruth Roy, Roy Wheeler and
Clerk Cant Proctor will meet
this week with the Recreation
committee te see if part of the
$40,000 needed to repair the
pool can be obtained from
LIP grant.

A freak accident on Mon-
day afternoon left a wide area
of Miran County without
hydro and tetephone service..
About 500 Bell Telephone
customers inan area from
the Bayfield Road in Clinton
to. Lake *Won were without
telephone service from about
2 p.m. until about
and about 700 persons in the
Southwest corner of Clinton
were without power until 3:30
p.m. as a result of the
mishap.
The unusual accident oc-
curred when the top of a
Laidlaw Transport truck
driven by Lloyd Hoy caught a
Bell Telephone Cable near the
entrance to the Hudie-
Wiseway Lumber on the
•Bayfield Road. The truck -
pulled the cable, snapping off
two poles and bringing down
hydro and telephone -wires.
Over 18,000 was realized
this summer by the Clinton
Monster bingos that were
held each Monday night in the
Clinton arbna.
The pingos, which ended
Monday night, were initiated
to try and raise funds for the
estimated IMMO repair job
needed to Clinton' aging
swimming pool.
The night school program
at Central Iluron Secondary
School will' be starting earlier
and offering more courses
this fan. Most of the courses
will start on the days of
October 6,1 or 8.

to fiitish in the Clinton Centennial Parade last week. The
group led the procession which numbered 1$4 entries.
