Last Monday saw the wrap-
up' 'of Clinton's Centennial
celebrations • and as
organizers dropped with
exhaustion from the 'hectic
pace of, the 10 -day long
festivities, they claim. Cen-
tennial to be an artistic as
well as a financial success.
- Near capacity crowds
attended almost every fun-
ction organized for Cen-
tennial which began with the
Air Force. Reunion Weekend
on July 25 and closed with -
Monday night's monster
Bingo.
Over 5,000 registered for
the Centennial.
It may have been Saturday,
but last weekend the crowds
turned out to "Back to
• School" day at Central Huron
Seco=ndary School.
Over 1,500 teachers and
students jam packed the
• auditorium to reminisce over
old times before regrouping
on the main streets of the
town for the greatest spec-
tacle Clinton has staged in its
100 years of existence, the
Centennial Parade.
Between 6,000 and 8,000
people lined the parade route
to watch the procession which
had 164 entries. and lasted
almost three hours.
Canada's Pied Piper,
Bobby Gimby. and a group of
school children led off the
parade followed by top bands
from Ontario and the United
States and many multi-
coloured floats.
A 19 -year-old Bayfield man
was run over by a car and
killed early Saturday mor-
ning on Highway 84, just west
of Hensal.
According to police in-
vestigation, and autopsy
results, Douglas Schilbe was
already' lying on the
pavement when he was
struck and dragged 86 feet.
(July 31) In what will likely be their last parads together,
former Air Force personnel from the now closed CFB
Clinton marched, together in the Air Force: Reunion
parade last Saturday. There were persons f tt across
North America,as well as many familiar faces from
Clinton. (News -Record photo)
