"Do it" not gross after all
By Larry York
The nature of last Thur-
stim's assembly was as much
a mystery to me, as to the
rest of the student body. The
participants had evidently
kept their secret well.
However, during the week I
had noticed a number of
Ito stfarige-looking posters,
popping up in the halls*
sporting the phrase "Do It".
Although the message had
been interpreted in several
ways, (none of them prin-
table) the- driving force
behind the message was the
Yearbook Club.
During the assembly, ,we
were introduced to two
varieties of "Do le:, the first
being, "Do It Buy a Year-
book.) . This year's yearbook
is rumoured to be the best yet
(and that rumour was not
initiated by the editor!) The
addition of individual pic-
tures for all, more candid
shots, and spot colour
promises a new took for the
yearbook - one that weare all
looking forward to.
The second variety of "Do
It" is "Do It - Enter Yearbook
Contests". Throughout the
school year, the yearbook
club will be sponsoring
literary and photography
contests. Participation in
these contests should be
optimum since lin sure there
are numerous budding
novelists, poets and
photographers in the student
body just waiting to let that
creativity flow. (within limits
of course)
The part of the assembly I
found most interesting was

that this day will go over
quite well.

present yardstick. You see
what I mean? So be sure to
get your "Kodak" in top
condition for those candid
shots.
The assembly made the
student body aware of the
excelte'itt yearbook now in
preparation. It will be for sale
all this week in front of the
cafeteria. As for the
assembly, it came to a close
with a dramatic, pie -throwing
finale, which proves once
again that if you have the
inclination, you really must

Education, in my opinion, is
the preparation of an in-
dividual to live in the world in
which he finds himself. It
involves far more than just
training to earn a living. True
education requires the ap-
preciation of the environment
in all its varied facets: art.

Each year at CHSS, we hold
an awards' banquet for the
outstanding athletes. Why not
for graduating students? Or
for students to excel?

productions? Last spring our
students • produced "Annie
Get Your Gun," a major
undertaking which involved
approximately 20 percent of
the student body, yet no
opportunity was given for
students to attend during
class time. This fall. with six
percent of the students in-
volved in football, time off
from classes was granted for
students to attend games. Is
football this much more
valuable, in building future
citizens — even among
spectators?
In the very near future, the

Why? Is this not an important
part of education?
When 1 came to this school,
we had an "Over 60 Club" for
students with outstanding
academic achievement.
Some small measure of
recognition was granted for
the use of a student's
academic abilities; no longer
is this the case.
If team sports are so im-
portant in learning living
skills for the future, why are
there no football certificates?
If the purpose of team
sports is to develop the arts of
warfare, then why not try
chess? The intellectual
pursuit is there without the
permanent injuries from
participation,
Must all our school heroes
be "jocks"?
Your parents are hiding

Dear Annie:
I have liked this certain guy
for a long ,time. He finally
founds that 1 like him and
he said that he didn't like the
way 1 acted and he called me
a bad name. 1 guess it's time
that I give up eh! Help!

Dear "Unloved"
Your man thinks he's boss
and that can be a problem.
When he starts calling you
names and saying what he
doesn't like about you, do the
same to Min and give him a
taste of his own medicine
Don't give up until you see
how he reacts to a reflection
of his insults.

Dear Annie:
Last week 1 wrote a "Dear
Annie" for your column. The
real problem 1 wanted an-
swered was about my
ugliness. I've been on a diet
for a long time and that's
helped me a bit, but I don't
know how' to improve my
looks. Please help!
Lonesome.
Dear "Lonesome"
Thanks for a second letter.
1 am sorry 1 didn't give you a
complete answer to your first
letter.
There isn't much you can
do about your looks because
you cant change what you
were born with. The best
things to do are: keep clean
and fresh, get lots of sleep
and don't over do your make-
up. A little make-up can be
used to point out your
highlights and to hide some
faults. but too much can only
make things worse. Your diet
and exercise should also
make you look better.
