Workers began restoring iourtyard wall* et the Owen ounts' MOM* hall Monday as
part of *LIP program Whielt Over SibliftWai Made available for restorative work
on the site. The funds w so he used to rater. some rooms in the governor's house.
It was announced last week that the
jail board was eligible for over $9,000 In
grants through the Local Initiatives
Program (LIP). Renovations to the
historic site will include masonary work
on the courtyard walls, restoration of a
cell block, redecoration of three rooms
in the governcir's house as well as some
other restoration work to two of the
bedrooms
Gaol manager Harry Bosnell
estimated that the restorative work
would employ the services of ap-
proximately six people. The men will
remove excess mortar from courtyard
walls and attempt to restore parts of the
crumbling walls to their original con-
dition. -
Inside, one cell block will undergo
complete restoration in an attempt to
restore it to its 1839 condition. In the
governor's house, two bedrooms wilt be
redone to reflect the period around 1900
and ether work will be done inside until
the funding holds out. -
Workers are now restoring segments
of the wall in the courtyard but weather
conditions will force the workers .inside
shortly where they wilt work on the
house until Christmas. Early in the
spring, work on the courtyard walls will
resume.
Mr. Bosnell estimated that despite the
grant through the LIP program, only
about 10 per cern of the necessary
restorative work will get done.

We now have new laws for motorized snow
vehicles, usually known as snowmobiles.
All snowmobiles must be registered with
Ontario's Ministry of Transportation and
Communications. (If previously registered.
they must be re -registered.) Registration is
free.
Also. people who operate Snowmobiles
off their own property must now have a
permit to do so. The fee for the annual
permit is $10.00. (The Only exceptions are in
certain designated areas of remote north-
western Ontario.)
Actually, complying with the new reg-
ulations is easy. You can re -register a
previously -registered snowmobile — and
obtain your annual permit—at any Ministry
of Transportation and -Communications
license -issuing office in Ontario (where you
get your automobile license).
if you buy anew snowmobile, the dealer
must register it on your behalf within six
days of the sale.
• The number of your Registration Cer-
tificate must be attached to, or painted on,
both sides of your snowmobile's hood in
numbers g" 103- high, and must contrast
with your snowmobile's colour to be
easily seen.
Your permit will be affixed to your
Registration Certificate and you will be
given two adhesive stickers to affix to your
snowmobile's hood according to directions.
That's all there is to d.
Do not drive your snowmobile anywhere
(except on your own property) unless it has
been registered and you have a permit.
Make certain that you know and observe
all operating rules and safety regulations
for snowmobiles and be sure to check local.
