In her remarks, , she
outlined the changing
opportunities for volunteers,
while stressing the need for
co=operation between
volunteers, professional staff.
and para -professionals.
Miss Elliott outlined the
possibilities for volunteer
service by young people
whose idealism can be har-
nessed, for mixch needed help
in the hospital fide Indeed,
in some parts of the United
States high school students
receive credit for volunteer
hours.
Retired people also can
devote gime to helping in
hospital work and its related
fields such as Meals on

volunteer work for those who
havetime to drive for this
worthwhile service.

I really like receiving of
new membert into the
Congregation dnring the first
hymn instead of the last
hymn! It d'emonstrates more •
fully for Worship that nothing
really makes sense in a
“Church Service" unless one
has already decided that
Jesus is to be Lord of his Life.
- The old image of having
people unite with the church
after the sermon was to give
preachers the responsibility
for the kind of emotional
manipulation which triggered
*thetenision.
Or, it compelled preachers
to entertain with such hilarity
and joy that persons thought
being a "Christian" was
merely "having fun and
fellowship".
Or, it reduced preachers to
having to take the Cross out of
Commitment, so that persons
would not be threatened with
the idea of "joining a Chur-
ch" as deciding to die for
J esus!
Thus, persons sometimes
felt they had been as one
person told me, "tricked into
joining by a slick -talking con
artist". Such persons get
furious when Church loyalty
involves making °a pledge of
money, or giving up a
favorite game or club to be
faithful to duties, or having to'
give up their favorite hates,
habits or haunts!
Churches became fun
houses or personality cults,
and God was supposed to do
something to them instead of
through them. When persons
,joins chi rches, because they
,'etre: ,,, `go :.-t4; u ' and
fellowship, they blaspheme
the Crucified Lord, thinking
they own Him, and not Vice
Versa!
Such persons attend not a
body of Christ, but to a place
for: 1) Escaping reality ; 2)
Enjoying entertainment; 3)
Enduring inanity.
Jesus condemned persons
because, "I never knew
you" ! Does He know you? --
And, Vice Versa! !

that after much deliberation,
it had been decided to have a
new cart built. It is to have a
plexiglass front for display
purposes and can be locked.
The new cart is to be left in
the front hall of the hospital
except when volunteers take
it to the patients' rooms so
that they can make pur-
chases. The cart is stocked
with items that patients may.
want during a hospital stay.
The previous cart is to be
converted to a library cart.
