- Mrs. Geo. Reid was in
Bayfield from Tuesday to
Thursday and attended two
birthday parties for Mrs. Ed
Reid, one at her home, and a
dinner party at *the home of
Mrs. -Larsen.
Mr. Hank Broe2e- has been
transferred from Clinton
-Hospital to St. jospr_s in
Landon' for surgery. We hope
he will have a good recovery.
Friends and neighbours of
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kuhl
VO gathered at the home of Mr.
"and Mrs. Bill Chessell on
Saturday evening for a
farewell party and presented
them with a gift for their new
home in Caryndale.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervin
Hayter visited their daughter
Darlene in Guelph on Sunday.
They drove through areas
where fields of grain had
never been cut, and saw other
t
fields which were cut and not
combined because of the
overabundance of rain in
those areas. Farmers in this
area, have been more for.
ttinate, with some of them
reporting above average
yields.
Varna 441 news
The first meeting of the
Varna II 414 Club was held on
October 6 at the home of Mrs.
Keith Stephenson. The
meeting was opened by
saying the 4-H pledge.
We discussed the different
reqtdrements of this club and
hadthe election of officers.
The president is Dianne
Cousin, secretary is Bev
Centel= and phone girl is
Mary AnitVerhulst.
Mrs. Stephenson discussed
the basic methods of making
freezer bread •and Mrs.
Consitt demonstrated. Later
ati of the Members had a
chance to knead the bread
dough and Mrs. Consitt
shaped it into loaves. by
Sandra Webster.
The second meeting of
Vartla II 4-H was , held at
Marjory Consites on Oetcrher
12.
We started the meeting by
repeating the 411 pledge. Roll
call was "A basic ingredient
of bread and, what it does". It
was answered by all mem-
bers.
We took up discussion
questions and Joan
Stephenson demonstrated
making white bread and we
all took turns shaping the
loaves. We then had some of
the freezer whole wheat
bread we made last week.
We named. aur club the
"Bunny Girls". Our next
meeting was on Monday.

The second meeting of
Varna 1 4-0 Club "Let's Bake
Bread was held at Brenda
and Bonnie bowson's on
Monday night.,
° The president, Kay Hill.
Opened the meeting with the
4-11 pledge and conducted the
business.
The leaders, Mrs. Jim Keys
and Mrs. Bill Dowson
discussed bread -making
techidques and storage of
bread and rolls.
We baked the freezer whole
wheat bread we had made at
the first meeting and Mrs.
Bill Dowson demonstrated
basic white bread.
Alter the meeting we got a
chance to sarnple the breads
we had made plus -a loaf
Bonnie had made with"
graham flour. It sure tasted'
good- with hornemade
strawberry and peach jams.

Doughy Duriiiireiis was held at
the home of Mrs. Lexie
Murch with an attendance of
12 girls.
At the meeting, Shirley and
Cathy Gilbert made brown
batter rolls.
While the rolls were
cooking the girls sampled
some bread brought in by one
of the girls. by Beverly
Walker and Shirley Gilbert.
