Sing about inulation, Mr.
Riddell said, the, province has a
billion deficit which is
costing the people 52,000,000
• every day in interest payments.
He said a Liberal govern-
ment would control govern-
ment spending. He said "super
ministries" would disappear
and the "Legislative process"
would be returned. He
promised that new bilis would
get to the standing committees
again for some "public input".
He said sharp tuts could be
made in a television ad-
vertising bill which is mounting
$7.5 million, adding that some
are an "insult to a person's
intelligence".
He said government should
"takea look" at salaries of civil
servants who are being paid
530,000 a year and up. "If such
salaries cannot be justified,
they must be cut," Riddell said.
Governmentprojects like
Douglas Point in Bruce County
where laborers are paid a
minimum of $6.90 an hour are
making it impossible for in-
dustries
ndustries to compete.
While campaigning, Riddell
said, industrialists all over the
Riding have been complaining
that the US market is dwin-
thing. Ontario products are too
high in price, partly because of
the cost of -materials and partly
because wages in Ontario are
'tout of line" with the wages in
most parts of the USA.
"We've got to control some of
the wages, and government is
the place to start," Riddell told
his audience.
The Liberal incumbent said

. Mr. Riddell outlined the
Farm Income Stabilization
Plan which he said. the Liberals
endorsed. Under this plan, the
federal government, the
provinciaaal government and the
farmer would each contribute
one-third of the cost of the
premiums. For the farmer, it
would be on a voluntary basis.
He said food in Canada costs
less than almost any other
nation in the world, chiefly
because the farmers know their
job and have been able to
"make three blades of grass
grow where only one grew
before".
Mr. _Ridden reiterated his
stand that Any future nuclear .
development in the province
should take.place .in the nor-
thern part of the province,
away from Huron Middlesex,
"the richest farmland in the
province".
He also said that industry
was welcome in Huron -
Middlesex provided it was
co'aatib.le 'a, with the
agricultural scene.
""Khruschev once said Russia
would bring Canada and the
United States to their knees, not
through war but by
economics," the Liberal
candidate concluded. "We've
got to put some sense and some
accountability back into
government."
APPROVAL
Cheers, whistles, car horns
and hand clapping interspersed
Riddell's comments
throughout.
At the conclusion, Goderich
lawyer Dan Murphy asked the
mi ons oo g audience: "We heard Bob
