girls circulated 1,338 paper-
backs to 10 park areas during
the month of July,
The construction of a picnic
shelter and changeroom
facilities at the Galbraith
Conservation Area is well
under way. The completion
date is set for mid-September.

CAS wOrkers ratify
contract to avert strike
ot'Three members of the
Canadian' Union of Public
--Employees ratified a new
contract agreement that
averted a strike -at the Huron
County Children's Aid Society,
(CAS).
The three members of CUPE
accepted wage increases of 17.9
per cent and more than 19 per
cent over a one year contract.
The three CAS employees
were in a legal strike position
on August .16 following a break-
down in their negotiations
which began in May. The new
one year contract with a 17.9
per cent increase for the
secretary stenographers
amounts to 51,260 while the

Township to build picnic pavillion
Stanley Township Council recently
approved the 5103,488 tender submitted by
Roger MacEachern of Mount Forest to
build the picnic pavillion on Highway 21.
The highest tender received by Council for
the project totalled 5127,000.
A petition for a municipal dragon lots 21
and /2, concession 10 was received while
council passed a tile drainage loan for
'49,000.

increase trailer license fees from 810 to SI5
per month; and a by-law requiring
swimming pools to be fenced in was
passed. Council also paid 81.1`13.of its share
of fees to the Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital.

Madeline Anderson, a
national representative • of
CUPE, said the workers con-
• sidered the pact to be less than
satisfactory but accepted the
increases to avert a strike.
Under their, old one year
contract which expired June 30
the two secretary
stenographers earned $7,000
and the clerk typist earned
55,400.
Earlier this month the county
had offered the -employees a 12
per cent increase of $1200 while
they were seeking an increase
of 25 per cent or $1800.
