the two runs. The Tigers scored
single runs in the third and fifth
innings to tie the scoreaf 2-2. At
this point, Cam MacDonald
came on in relief of Bartliff.
An unearned run in the sixth
gave Dashwood the lead. but
*the Colts evened the score at 3-3
• with a run in their half of the
sixth inning.
Dave Fawcett hit a double to
left centrefield with one out.
Cam MacDonald then hit a
ground rule double to tie it up
for the Colts. But that is all the
scoring the Colts could muster
against the fine pitching of left -

The Clinton Juvenile "C"
Baseball Club set a record last
Thursday as the first ball club
to win the Bruce Dean
Memorial Trophy as 'the
Western Ontario Athletic
Association Juvenile "C"
Champs for a third year running

Hugh Hodges, past president
at the WOAA, presented the
Juveniles' Steve McDonald
with the trophy and expfessed
his confidence that the team
would gd on to repeat last
year's performance and take
the 'Ontario Baseball
Association Juvenile "C"
Championship.
Vanastra Gun Club results
After a tong absence, John
Anderson of Kippen was back
in action at the August 13
Vanastra Gun Club's trap shoot
to take first place with his score
of 24 hits.
Bill Stewart, Greg Potter and
Jim Sheardown, all of
Goderich, tied at second with 23
while 'Charlie Brandon of
Clinton, a new name to appear
in the shoot results, tied John
Rends of Goderich with 22.
Continuing with the ties, Bill
Thompson and Mery Batkin of
Clinton finished at 21 with
Lloyd Venner of Hensel' and
Derwin Carter of Londesboro.
Jim Butcher of Clinton turned
•in an le; Jack Marriott of
Goderich shot a 17 and Ashley
Gilbert and Janet Potter of
Goderich tied at 16. Jim East of
Clinton trailed with,10.
In the. Autkust 36tskeet shoot,
Bill McNutt of Exeter had to
share his lead for a second
week, this time with Mery
Batkin of Clinton who also shot
a 24. Jerry Coleman of
Seaforth, DerWin Carter of
Londesboro and Bill Stewart of
Goderich finished in a three-
wav tie at 23 while Greg Potter
end Pat Heenan of Seaforth
turned in scores of 22.
Paul Metter of Vanastra shot
a 19, with another three-way tie
occurring at 18 with Hary
McCallum of Myth, Ashley
Gilbert of Goderich and
Harrison Schoch of Zurich.
Clinton's Bill Thompson closed
the field with his 16.

The regular schedule for girls
softball was completed last
Tuesday. Aug. 12 when
Goderich Township A team
played Stanley at Brucefield,
winning it 19-2. The two stars
picked for that game were
pitcher Debbie Wise and good
hitting Pat Harris.
The juniors also played their
last game of the regular series
withStanley Juniors and lost by
a miserable score which they
care to forget. Karen Jantzi
and Susan Bell -were picked as
stars.
• The playoffs for both boys
and girls softball begins this
week.
One boysteam has been
undefeated throughout the
regular season. Hopefully by
next week's paper, someone
Will take time to report more
fatly on 'their -programme. It
should make an n interesting
story.

Raceway, Lady's David owned

out of the money.
The second race winner, was

Sunday afternoon, the first race
winner was Hickory Lassie,

both of Clinton. The time of the
mile was 2:09 and the payoff
was 53.10. Out of the money was

driven by William Caldwell.
The second race winner was
Cromarty Lass, owned and
driven by William Bennett of
Seaforth The time of the mile
was 2:12.3 and the payoff was
55.70. Second was Granny

Colts advance in OBA playoffs

Last Wednesday, August 13,
the Thorndale Angels gained
revenge on the Clinton Colts for
the trouncing the Colts had
given them.? in their previous
encounter in Thorndale last
weekend by defeating the Colts
at Clinton by a score of 8-2.
Ed Deer started on the
mound for Clinton and took the
loss, although he left when the
score was only 3-2 in the sixth
for the Angels.
The Angels put the game out
of complete reach of the Colts
in the eighth inning by scoring
five big insurance runs off
three' Colt pitchers, Cam
MacDonald, Dan Colquhoun
and Don Bartliff.
The Angels. grabbed an early
1-6 lead in the second inning by
bunching three singies for one
run. Stew Mustard gave the
Colts a short-lived lead in the
fifth inning as he slammed out
a two run homer over the 330
centrefield. foot mark in That
was all the runs the Colts could -
score off Angels' pitcher Doug
Byers, who pitched a very good
game, limiting the Colts to only
seven hits.
Stew Mustard led the Colts
with three hits, a homer and
two singles; Doc IVIiller had a
double and single; Cal Fremlin
and Larry Pickett had one
single each.
Back in Thorndale last
Friday. August 15, the Clinton
Colts ousted the Angels from
further D.B.A. competition by
defeating them 9.6 on the
strength of strong relief pit-
ching by Cam MacDonald and
Stew Mustard.
The Celts jumped off' to a
quick 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Mustard and Colquhoun hit
back to back singles and Don
Bartliff slammed a three -run
homer over the centrefield
fence, some 330 feet from home
plate.
The Angels quickly tied it up
3-3 with a three run homer of
their own by Cadick in the
bottom half of the first inning
off starter Larry Pickett.
The Colts grabbed the lead
again in the second inning with
. a walk to Butch Fleet,
sacrifice by Mustard and a
single by Dan Colquhoun,
producing the_ run. Inciden-
• tally, Dan Colquhoun ted the
-Colt —attack by going four for
four at the plate to raise his
batting average to .473. Stew
Mustard- is the other Colt hitter
who has a four hundred batting
average at .432.
Thorndale tied the game
again at 4-4 with a run in the
third inning. Dawson' hit a
homer off reliever Cam
MacDonald. In the fourth in-
ning the Angels took the lead
fa the first time 5-4. Twp walks
and a single produced the go
ahead run
The Colts actually won the
game in the fifth inning as they
scored four big runs. With one
out, Dan Colquhoun singled,
Don Bartliff got on on an error
and Dee -Miller walked, filling
the bases. Paul Bartliff then
looped a two run double down
the left field line. With, two out,
Cam MacDonald won his own
game with a two run single
scoring IVliller and Paul Bar-
tliff.
George Taylor of the Angels
hit his second homer of the
series off MacDonald in the
seventh to narrow the score to
8-6. but the Colth got it back
with an unearned run in the
ninth to make the final score
Colts 9. Angels 6:
Dan Colquhoun led the Colt
hitting attack with a double and
three singles ; Stew Mustard
gathered two singles: Don
Bartliff homered, Paul Bartliff
cracked out a double: and Cam
MacDonald hit a key single.
The Colts now advance to the
quarter -final . round of the
D.B.A. playdowns. As yet, they
do not know their next op-
ponents.
