In press jargon, the sports
page this week. is "tight". Not
"imbibingly so", but "bulging
at the seams so". Also Town
Talk is a little underfed - so we
have some sports news items to
even up a little.
Mr. Larry Colclough of
Clinton scored the golfer's
dream, a hole -in -lone, .-last
Monday morning, August 11, an
the Bluewater Golf Course,
Bayfield. The last time this feat
was accomplished on that
course was in May, 1973, by Mr.
John Gates,. of` r►ydield and
KitnbeaSS,
Likewise in golf, .Mr. Tohn

Rev. W. Jerre Miller,
Ph.D.
They .run slick ads in the
paper and promise everything
from leak?proof roofs for
lifetimes of use to retirement
always sunny sand doubling
your medley. Sweet, elderly
people and some sharp,
sophisticated business leaders
get "taken in". And persons
lose their life savings or worse
yet, their very lives.
And the promises are real—
they are real ;,promises. There
is just no reality -behind the
promise, itself.
How sad to hear the
defrauded victims moan, "He
seemed s si ncere:'r "She was
such a nice wholesome ap-
pearingperson."
How youonna know?
The same thing happens in
religion -loo at the millions
which gullible people pour into
.. 4 . At c s ' whit do
ar thong _fpr x Wbo, have
no low. responsibilities and
who can promise anything.
That is why I'm a chur-
chman! I may have to put up
with institutionalism, in-
difference and incompetence at
times. o
1 also have persons who have
a responsibility and concern for
mission, and who can do
something about my needs.
God never works in a
vacuum! When he calls
someone, he calls them from
among Its People. Ask the
Virgin Mother. Ask Martin
Luther. Ask John Wesley. Ask
John Calvin. Ask God!
And God never calls persons
to a Vacuum. He sends theca
hack_ .to. .Has_,_Ple. and His
World. Ask Mosses...- , . ASR. -
Jeremiah. Ask Isaiah: Ask
John the Baptist. Ask Jesus. .
Does the spirit which guides
you lead persons to or away
from God's People?
Ask yourself.
