HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1975-07-31, Page 18040 00 40 0 „1000..1m.0, Cowan - Lighted candelabra . and baskets of pink gladiolas, blue pots and white shasta daisies, provided the setting at St. James Anglican Church, Middleton, on Saturday July th. at 4 p.m- for the pretty summer wedding, uniting in marriage, Barbara Jean Wise and Christopher John Cowan. The bride is the daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Edward C. Wise of RR 3, Clinton, and the groom is the son of Mr. and. Mrs. William A. Cavan, of Goderich. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. George Youmatoff, Rector of the Parish, and organist Mrs. Sarah Storey accompanied Mrs. Dorothy Dumont of London who sang, "The Wedding Song", "The Lord's Prayer" and "dare": Given in . marriage by her parents, the bride looked lover: in a floor -length gown of sheer organza. The _bodice had an inset square bib of ° pleated sheer, outlined by a ruffle and dainty braid trim. The neckline was off -set by a ruffle also. The sleeves puffed delicately at the elbow, and gathered into a cuff at the, wrist. The futi Circular skirt fell gracefully into a chapel length train. Her headpiece was a matching Jytiet cap which held her 10 silk illusion veil trimmed with matching braid. She carried a bouquet of pink sweetheart roses" white shasta daisies and blue stephanotis. Mrs. Brenda. Cleave of Timmins, sister• of the bride was matron• of honour, and wore a floor -length gown of printed sheer organza in soft colours of blue and pink. The bodice had a scooped neckline, edged with white braid. The gown featured an empire waist, wedding bell sleeves, and fu1 skirt_ Miss Christine Wise, sister of the bride, and Miss Debbie Hicks, of Blyth . friend of the bride, were bridestimids, and were similarly attired to the matron of honour. They all- wore pink hairpiec�s and carried nosegays of pin poms and white shasta daisies. The groom's mother assisted, wearing. a floor --length sleeveless gown of pink printed cher 'organza with empire waist and flared skirt, and snatching coat with 'Peter Pan collar an button trim. She wore white accessories and a corsage of blue carnations, white stephanotis and baby's breath. " The bride's table was centred with a three 'tiered wedding cake. Rev. George Youmatoff presided as Master of Ceremonies- and Dennis Kelly, brother-in-law of the, bride, proposed the toast to the bride. The music' for the dance was provided by/the `'tar=ex'~''---- For a rngtor trip 'to e*Wes ; Coast, the bride changed into a' beige pant suit with brown and white polka dotted collar and cuffs, flared jacket and self ties in the back. She wore brown aer. ssorie and a . corsage of yellow roses. The couple will be residing on the groom's farm at RR 1, Auburn and the bride is a nurse on staff at the Goderich Psychiatric Hospital. Ladies' club meet Evelyn Merrillwas the hostess for the July meeting of the Surnnerhill Ladies' Club. Phyllis Tyndall opened the meeting with a poern'which was followed by the Creed and the Lord's Prayer said in unison. Roll call was answered by 17 members. The minutes of the June meeting were read and ap- proved and a thank you note was received from Ida Wright. Jean and Sue Vodden con- ducted a bingo, and Hazel! Watkins had a contest entitled, "Bakeries in Huron." The ,meeting was adjourned with the singing of The Queen and grace after which lunch was served. The August meeting will be held at Marion Snell's Thorne. Ali and Sandra Westerhaut and Marg Wright will provide the programme and lunch. The Empty Pew Rev. W. The scripture does not contain any guarantee that it is not going to be mis-interpreted, nor that it isnot not going to be used for purposes which its original Spirit never intended. People bring to scripture all their own prejudices, opinions and facts. Then they interpret the Bible in the light of what, they already "think" and "feel" and "know". If they need to sustain some immature emotionalism, they can find abundant evidence in Scripture for magic, "spiritual experiences'', and Acts -of -God. if they need to "prove" or to disprove some "intellectual" idea of God's existence, or non existence, they can find plenty Of "evidence" in Scripture,. If they need to prove. some one kind of religiosity is._ more "Christian" Man another, they can quote plenty of Scripture• to "prove" their preconception. That's why the scripture, itself, reminds us, .. "No Scripture is of any private interpretation!" (II Peter 1;20. -hat group tests your faith? What faith•tests your group? Johnston - Gilbert Londesboro United Church was the setting for the June 14 wedding ceremony that united Charles Gordon Johnston, son. of Mr. and Mrs. Gorden Johnston of Clinton and Bar- bara Anne Gilbert, also of Clinton. Rev. Stanley MacDonald officiated at the double ring ceremony. Louise Lovett was the organist. The bride, who was given in marriage by her children, wore a long, soft,pink gown with a white picture hat and carried a bouquet' of miniature mixed ruses. Her matron of honour, Mrs., Ross • Puschelberg of Shakespeare, Ontario, was similarly attired in a powder blue gown and white picture hat. She carried a bouquet of yellow and white carnations: Bridal attendants: Shirleyanne Gilbert, senior bridesmaid, Cathy Gilbert, junior bridesmaid, and` Wendy_ Rose Gilbert, flower girl, all daughters of the' bride, wore light blue , gowns and white picture hats with blue ribbons. Each girl carried a bouquet of red roses, Ross. Puschelberg of Shakespeare was the best man and the groom was attended by Stanley and Ricky Gilbert. Larry Gilbert was the ringbearer and Jim Johnston, brother of the groom and Jack East Were the Ushers Following the wedding ceremony, a dance was.held at the Myth Town Hall. The groom's mother wore a green flowered dress with a corsage of orange roses. The couple and their family have made their home in Clinton.
