Authority. The 00,000 project
was started more than two
years ago and was completed
lastyear.
Under the original
agreement, the A'uthority
agreed to maintain the
property as a flood control area
only. The Ridgetown Council
asked for, and obtained per-
mission. to maintain the area
themselves for an improved
park. The whole two block area
has been added and gardens
planted and trees and shrubs
setout to landscape it.
Those taking part in the
ceremony were heads of the
different departments. To
officially mark the completion
of the park a tree planting
ceremony took place. The
reeve thanked the Horticultural
Society for ,their " part in the,
planting of the flowerbeds by
the students of the elementary
schools and the funds for the
planting of the trees and shrubs
carne from the Weighbourm;ent

Mayor Luckharn also noted
the significent contribution to
the community given by the
date generations of Mickies.
They have been active, he said,
in social, business and church
activities since they came here
in 1882.
George Mickle's father
Frank served on the local board
of education for many, many
years and George has been
active :„ in municipal govern-
ment since 1949, serving as
councillor, deputy -reeve, and
mayor and also served for
several years on the F.U.C.
Commission.
The mayor announced that
withthe consent of ` the
Authority the new park Was to.
be named Mickle Park in
honour of the Mickle families
who have made RIO a
significant contribution tO- the
town.
The park was then officially
declared Mickle Park by the
Chamber of Commerce past
president, Gordon Walker. The
name of -the park was a com-
plete surprise to Geo. Mickle.
"You have overwhelmed me",
he said, and then thanked the
town and the Authority for the
honor bestowed upon the
Mickle family.
A centennial flag was then
rernoved from a small cairn
revealing a. bronze tablet
proclaiming that area Mickle
Park.
Plenty .of warm weather,

ingredients that are-needed•for
..a -good cucumber harvest. says
Alois Van Esbroeck, a farmer
in Tuckersmith Township; just
a anile south of Hensall on High-
way 4.
Mr. Van Esbroeck is looking
for a gond harvest this year.and
has already begun picking his
cucumbers,which, with his
wife and ten children is a
family affair. He has around
six acres in cucumbers and
hopes to harvest at least five
tons to the acre. This is the
earliest he has begun picking
for some years so he expects to
finish around the first of Sep-
tember before school goes
back.
Unlike most produce, the
smallest cucumbers get the
highest price and ' as the
cucumbers get bigger, so the
price goes down. This, of
course, is because his produce
goes to a pickling company. So
the field has to be picked
frequently and the harvesting
'"Pickers Rig" is a big step

cucumbers had to be dragged
