The Guides had their weekly
meetings at the Scout Hall, which
was several rooms above. the
former Werdorrs store on Huron
Street,
Camping was enjoyed on the
shores of Lake Huron at Burke's
Beach, Kitchigami and Sunset
Beach. In those days the first
duty. on arriving at the camp
site, was to fill an oversized
potato sack with clean- straw.
This. when laid on the ground.
became our bed for the camping
period.
One of the biggest thrills this
• the Royal visitors Queen
Elizabeth and King George the
Sixth in Stratford in 1939. 'After
the Guides stood 'for hours in the
hot sun. the Royal couple finally
arrived, and stepped out in the
viewing platform of the train. At
this exciting and tense, moment.
Ione I if the Guides fainted. Several
uF the Guides Were so busy trying
to revive their fallen comrade.

and were quite active in Guiding.

and Scout movement, attracting

before the turn of the century was

went a piece of our local history,
andmanypast memories of an
old building. that served the town
well.
It has been vacant since the
last passenger train ceased to

to earn their badges, these girls
team- and practise leadership
within their groups. Some of the
badges earned are in the area of
fire brigade, knots, local
knowledge and emergency
_helper. The bigheSt!rneril badge
to earn in the Guide• area is the
Canada Cord.
