School lives as home
The Holiday Home (former
Public School) -situated on the
corner of Ontario and William
Streets is now lending itself to a
very useful community service.
Purchased by Mr. Ceriel
VanDamme in 1956 it was
renovated by Mr. VanDamme
and converted into apartments in
1958. In 1969 it proved a useful
convenience for retiring people.
The fewer floor had for its first
guest'Mr. Fred Scotchmer. His
siser Daisy Butler. and Mrs: B.
Jenks of Hensall. Other guests
came and Went. Miss Sybil
Courtice also made it a pleasant
home while she recuperated from
her accident. Harold Pickett also
was a resident for some time and
his colorful tales kept everyone
interested as he told about the
building and the many people •
who passed within the walls of the
old school:
The present guests all have
their own private rooms,
spacious living rooms. T.V.. and
are -given personal service by the
VanDamme family. It is not a
nursing home.
