Clinton Grammar School, as
secondary schools were then
alled, was later known as
Clinton High School and then
raised to the status of a Collegiate
s, Institute in 1885.
In 1876, a new school situated
tat west of the present building,
was constructed. Mr. !. Turnbull
was principal. The preSent
building was occupied for the
first time in .April 1927, with Mr.
LA, Fines as principil. The cost
of construction in 1927 was ap-
proximately Eighty- Thousand
Dollars 4S cempared to Um cost

Six Thousand Dollars.
Since 1927, five additions
have been added to this building.
The first three -- 1946. 1954, and
1960 provided purely academic
facilities. It was not Wietil 1969
that the first vocational wing was
added at a cost of approximately
One Million, Six Hundred
Thousand Dollar. It included
seven technical shops. twenty-
three standard classrooms, a
single gymnasium. a cafeteria
and administration -offices. This
enabled the school to ac-

not only the students from th.
Clinton area but also Goderick,
Seaforth and gaeter areas, the
name was changed from Clin'ton
District Collegiate Institute to its
present name Central Huron
Secondary School.
In 1866, one hundred Yeatl
after the begihning of the original,
school; a contract was awarded
by the Briar& to build a second
vocational addition. which, was
available to the students in'
September 1967. It containedike
classroonis, one typrng tom, an
electronics -shop and a boys'
special education shop. The
school now could accommodate
fourteen hundred and ,fifty
student.
In 1964, the School Board
purchased approximately
fourteen acres of land north of the
school to replace a sports field
which had been swallowed up by
•its building progranunes..
