In 1960 the OtidfellowS and
Rebekahs purchased a lot from
the late A:F. Cudmoce on Prin-
cess Si. East. They bought No. 10

and moved it to this iVite and
made it into a Lodge Hall. The
Rebeitahs held their first meeting
,n Jan. 1961 in the basement of the
Inolding. Later. when work was
ctImpleted the upstairs hall
became the meeting room. and a
recreation room and small kit-
chen, are in the baSemenL
Through various fund raising
--programs the mortgage was paid
•,ff in 1967. and a mortgage
owning ceremony was held. Our

in 1948 and is still active.
The Oddiellb—virs
Rebekahs both an annual church
service each spring. and provide
grave markers far deceased
Rebekahs from our own lodge.
Locally . we own and Ioasi
wheelchairs, walkers, crutches,
and quad canes to those who need
them for a short perind of time,
and also support community,
projects whenever we are able.
• The lodges of this area
presented a new eye -testing
machine to the Huron County
Health Unit, for use iii the Area •
Schools.
We also support the United
Nations Youth Program by
sending high school students
:Annually from Huron County who
win the right tag°. by competing
in public speaking contests in
their dwn districts. They join with
their fellow students across
North. A.merica In experise free.
trips to the United Nations, as
guests of Oddfellows and
Rebekah lodges.
Other work of . the lodge
consists of supporting a home for
the 'aged in Barrie, and by
providing funds for the Ontario
Eye Research program. - The members of Huronic
Rebekah Lodge No. 306 of Clinton
extend to the Town of Clinton our
best wishes for their 100th bit..

The building that now hotises the Royal Bank and Shirai's Department
Store, built by W. Coates, was moved into in 111941 by the JackS6n, Brothers.
William and Thomas. retailing boys clothing.* Shortly atter moving in they
began to.ntanulacture boys clothing for wholesale trade as well -as retail. and
developed a very substantial market in Canada especially Tn the western
provinces which -were at that time being settled. As business -expanded they
moved to larger quarters and in a short time wereoperating branch
plants -in Goderidl.Exeter and Zurich.
In 1906,the Clinton Branch of the Sovereign Bank. which had located in the
Beaver Block in 1902. bought the premises noW occupied by". 11* Royal Bank.
They remodelled the corner to its present 'architecture, that is, an imitation
masonry veneer was added to the lower- walls, and the present doorway -
with -Pillar was bent The staff moved in on the 3rd of December 1906. In
January 190* the Sovereign Bank, wbichhapurnerous branches in 9tiada,
ceased to exist, and the Clinton Branch Was taken over by the -Royal Bank
withoutstoppage of business. The Manager. E.H. Oewart and the staff were
retained.
Except for changes in store -front styles and interior remodellings the'
other -buildings under discussion have remained essentially the same as
when they were built in Mil.
