Arbor Day.
Friday last was arbor day for the schools.
The scholars of nearly every school in the
country were at work, cleaning up, making
flower beds, and general renovating. There
.were few trees planted, on account of the
season being too far advanced, and trees
;haying come out in leaf. When the date
was selected it was not thought that vege-
:tation would have been so far advanced.
However, what was not done intree planting
was amply made :up for in other improve-
ments. We have passed by many of the
school yards since, and we must say that
the teachers and scholars are to be eompli-
.mented on the clean and tidy appearance of
the play grounds.
-Accident.
Tnesday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Dickson met
with an accident which might have been
very serious, and in fact might have result-
ed fatally. It appears that a table which
usually stood. under a chandelier had been
:moved and a chair put in its place. On this
Mr. Dickson had been sitting, and upon ris-
ing struck his head with considerable force
against the chandelier, inflicting an ugly
wound, from which the blood flowed profusely.
As it was, he was badly stunned, but had his
head struck with a;.little more force or in a
more dangerous place, (the accident would
probably have been fatal. Although being
in a weak state, he rallied sufficiently to sit
with the quarterly Board, which convened
at the parsonage in the eveuing.

From all reports it is the intention of the
committee who are snaking arrangements for
the county orange celebration, to be held
here on the 12th of July to make it a success.
It is probable there will be an immense
crowd in town that day.
A meeting of the members of the Main -

be held in the basement of the church this
evening (Thursday,) at which a full repre-
sentation is requested, as important business
which directly interests the whole congrega-
tion will come up.
The council intend cutting down the wil-
low trees on Main -street in front of Mr. L.

maples will be planted in ,their stead. This
will certainly be an improvement, as the
willows are a nuisance.
