his family, and latterly by Doug
Kennedy. Its earlier history has
not been ascertained.
Immediately to the east of the
1.+G:A. was a livery barn fronting
on Mary Street that extended
southward onto the premises of,.
Beatty Farm Services aunitiing.
It was about 45 by 75 feet. the hang
dimension -being along King
Street. it is believed that the
livery barn was demolished
about 1935. The Beatty building
was built 'in 1939 as -a Cities
Service station, the first lessees
being Bannister and Turner,..,..

Kennedy sold it to Allan Turnbull

above had a predecessor which
-was burned in May 1891. At the
time of the fire, it was operated
by James Beattie who wasin th. e

livery barn across:King Street
(see 13). The origin of the burnt
livery barn is uncertain. t may
have been built as early as 869ar

owner. Mr. 13. B. Kenn
known to have been in the
business from 1868 but whether
on. the site- in question has not
been. determined. On the other
hand. the barn may have been
built from the old St: Pau.l's.
Sunday School (see f3) ,:which
would mean it was built in 1885.

Kennedy, but another report says'
the buyer was Nate Warrener.°
Chuter's cement block' Heating
and Electric Shop immediately
south of Beatty's Farm Service
office was built in 1933 by Cliff
Proctor as an implement repair
shop. The north end el the shop
probably overlapped the site of
the livery barn discussed above,
but it was otherwise on the site of
- a blacksmith shop built between
1890 and 1911 and operated in the
late 29's and early 30's by Guy
Jones.
J.W. Peck's shop. immediately
south of Chuter's. built in 1951 by
Bili, Wens. is on the site of what
was the Wefley Willis church
shed, erected in 1909. So far as is
awn. Ibe site . was, previously
vacant. church Shed was a
large' Sala hultding with cement
walla and a peaked metal root.

The Clinton Foundry building was Olithesite ofithe-present post
office. K$pg Street is behind the building as seen in this photo. The
scene dates from before .1907.
