Canoe race to be heId
The Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority is holding
its second annual Parkhill
Canoe Race on Sunday, July 27
at the Parkhill Conservation
Area.
Last year the event was very
successful and this year more
classes have been scheduled
and an even larger, number of
peopt&'nre expected to attend.
Nine -races are scheduled for
the day, beginning at 10:30a.m.
and these races are designed to
provide fun and competition for
every member of the family.
- Registration . takes place
twcetn 9,and JO a.m., and the
. " esu' continue -.during --the
morning and afternoon.
Registration ' fees are $2 per
canoe. The usual fee of $1 will
be charged to enter the con-
servation area.
Following the races prizes
and trophies will be presented
on the beach.
The Parkhill Conservation
is the largest , con-
rea operated by the
Are
serva
Ausable-Bayfield Conservation
Authority. Refreshment
booths; camping -facilities and
an inviting beach area all
contribute to this popular area.
The canoe race is part of a
program designed to encourage
the public to become
acquainted with the various
conservation areas in the
Authority's watershed.

year-old University of Waterloo
recreation "student, has been
employed by the Authority as

including campfires, hay rides,
square dances, arts, and crafts,
and a variety of games and,
sports.
The canoe race is one of- the "
main events she has planned
for the season and the general
public is invited to take part in
the event as competitors or
spectators.

and should arrive soon. -
Ten sturdy picnic tables have
been ordered for the lakeside
park from the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority. Five
are already delivered to the'
park. This report was given by
Jerry Ginn. He also presented
a map of a proposed plan for
the park which had been made
by the Authority. This, was
, carefully studied by the
members of council. ' Some
changes were suggested but on
the whole it was generally
accepted and just having 'a
picture of the park on paper
was appreciated

being made for exchange
games. with neighbouring

Marion Powell said she had
attended the coaches meeting
early in June'and had been
quite impressed and proud of
the large number of the- ham-

However, Hugh reluctantly
reflected that there seemed to
be a,,scarcity of help at the first

The 40th annual .Harrison
reunion was held pin June 14
with a very go od attendance at
Seaforth. , .A smorgasbord
supper which included a special
cake decorated for the event,
was served in the pavilion. A
minute's silence was observed
for those who had passed away
intheprevious year.
The afternoon was spent with
