sernbiance of order
characterized the, June 4
meeting of the Centennial
Committee, and ..as vice;
chairman Rolston Steep put it,
"Things are starting to fit
together the closer we get."
One of theparts now,pleced
together is the ordering of the
Clinton. town flag, Decorating
chairman Roy Wheeler said the
original order for 100 large and
1,000 small flags would stand,
"We checked with 20 flag
manufacturers., and our
present order is the cheapest
we could find," he said.
Mr. Wheeler added that Bill
Riehl of Gamester Advertising
said it would not be feasible to
decrease the flag order from
1,000 to 500.
"If- we only ordered 500 flags
our cost would rise from $3.62 to
$6,15," Mr. Wheeler said. -
He also informed the meeting
that Gus Boussey, a member of
his (Mr. Wheeler's) committee
had resigned.
Meanwhile, the Ausable-
Bayfield 'Con'servation
Authority has contacted the
Committee about opening its
picnic pavillion in conjunction
with Clinton's Centennial,
events. The Authority also
expressed a desire to donate its
tree spade for the Centennial
Parade, followed by a
demonstration of the machine
in the planting of a centennial
tree.
Some question then arose as
to where the tree could be
planted.
"Don't put it on the main
streets or they'll break it off
unless it's 100 feet thick," Mr.
Wheeler said, noting" the
destruction of several saplings
that had been planted in the
town.
A motiov by Don Kay,
seconded by Eric Switzer hired
Ward Electronics of Kitchener
to provide a sound system in
the arena during the week of
Centennial for a rental fee of
$2,400. The cost will include a
public address system inside
and outsidethe arena and
people to operate it.
Mr. Steep said the company's
P.A. and four horn systems
could be rented for the summer
bingo games at $25 per night or
a total of $350 for the summer.
The Kinettes are • making a
gazebo which will serve as a
----bandstand-for -the Centennial
dances to be held in the arena,
The six sided structure, with an
area of 20 square feet, will be
situated in the .centre of the
arena, and will remain
available . for use after the
Centennial celebrations.
A suggestion of sending a
letter to Tuckersmith Council
urging it to clean up Vanastra
• for centennial was thrown open
for debate. Tuckersmith Reeve
Elgin Thompson, who was
present at the meeting, said, tne
township had taken_care of the
parts on the former air base
that were under its jurisdiction.
He countered with the idea that
letters be sent to John Van.
