in observance of the
denomination's ' 50th an-
niversary. -
Young men and women from
across Canada will visit one of
six Asian and African countries
Korea Hong Kong, Japan,
India, Zambia or Kenya - in
groups of fifteen during July
and August. There will be
orientation sessions befbre
departure from either Montreal
or Vancouver, and a sharing of
experiences whenea fromthe o the
return. Young people
countries visited 'will come to
Canada in 1976.
"On the basis of reports from
interviewing committees,"
said Mr. Young, "it's obvious
that our church is blessed with
many dedicated and deter-
mined young people who want
to gain the knowledge and
experience that will fit them to
be effective leaders for their
church and their country. They
are keen to learn, to see with
their own eyes and share ideas
with their peers in other lan-
ds.' of
The response
congregations and presbyteries
»to the Youth Exchange `idea
was so enthusiastic that over
600 young men and women
between the ages of 17 and 25
were nominated, far more than
the funds would allow.
Douglas,
Rev. Fred
secretary of the Church's
division of finance, who has the
responsibility for funding this
special anniversary project,
estimates that the total cost
will be in the neighbourhood

grants have come from
government and business -

Development Agency) for
instance, has given
00.
"This is an indication that the
' federal government recognizes
the significance of having
youthful ambassadors to go to
these developing countries in
Canada's name," said Dr.
Douglas. will
But the main funding
come from United Church
members. "People respond
when. they see the need," says
Dr. Douglas, and adds without
subtle..y that people can either
contribute through their own
congregation's 50th an-
niversary fund or send to the
treasurer of The United Church

Legal and
moral obligation
One legal and moral
obligation all car owners bear
is the obligation to be sure their
vehicles are maintained in a
mechanically safe condition.
This won't eliminate all ac-
cidents but it will reduce them,
states the Ontirio Safety
League. It is an obligation each
driver owes to his community
and those who share the road.
With rough Winter driving
giving way to Spring, it is an
obligation no sensible driver
will shirk.
