TODAY'S CHILD
BY HELEN ALLEN
THE TORONTO J JJii SYNDICATE
If . Terry misbehaves ( and what boy doesn't'.' ). his foster
mother quickly brings him into line by threatening to keep him
home from school. That's the worst punishment she can think of.
Nine-year-old Terry has been at school for several years now
but until last term he was there in body only. He wasn't in-
terested and didn't learn. Now he is in a special class, working
at the upper level of Grade one. Though that is behind his age
group. Terry really loves school, he wants to learn and his
progress is steady.
Terry is a handsome boy. Anglo-Saxon in descent. He has
blonde hair; blue eyes and fair skin sprinkled with freckles. He
is in excellent health•,.When Terry.vasa babyrhe was diagnosed,

as having hydrocephalus ( anor" i;„, .
skull) . The condition corrected itself aild hag caused no concern
since then.
Since Terry was not on a level with his contemporaries in
school he didn't like playing with children his own age. In his
frustration at not being able to keep up with there. he frequently
used to lose his temper and fight. His relations with other
children have now improved greatly and he can share group
activities such as floor hockey. He still prefers adult company.
There's nothing this youngster likes better than sharing some
grown-up chores. He really works. too!
Terry needs a warm. understanding family who will give him
much love and attention plus encouragement without pressure
initis school endeavors.
To inquire about adopting Terry, please write to Today's
Child, Ministry of Community and Social Services. Box 888.
Station K, Toronto M4P 2H2.
For general adoption information, consult your local
Children's Aid Society.

Mystery tours planned
by Clinton man r
Are people willing to pay $3
for a three hour bus tour which
will take them to unknown
destinations? Bill Crawford of
Clinton thinks they are and is in
the process of arranging his
first Mystery Bus Tour
scheduled for Saturday, May
24.
There will be 10 different
tours through five counties:
Perth, Huron, Bruce, Lambton
and Middlesex which will stop
• at provincial parks, historic
sites, old towns and villages
and even a jail, Mr. Crawford
said. The fare will cover all
admission fees that any tour
stops may require.
Mr. Crawford plans to run the
tours every Saturday and
Sunday throughout the summer
months and could possibly
arrange tours in the fall for
people interested in seeing the
autumn eolours of the leayes.
The tours will operate as a
private enterprise and are

Rev. W. Jene Miller
He complained that his
Church was unhappy because
he did not call on them often
enough. I told him I had the
opposite problem. Seems that
the more I call on members the
more they get upset.
I call on them to be regular in
attendance at worship, and
study, and they get hostile and
say they go to Church, when
they really only go to church
school class (which is NOT the
same as going to worship!!) I
call on them to attend our local,
district and conference training
programs, and they complain
that they have too much to do
as it is,
I ,call on them to"come to our
Church dinners and join the
fellowship of their church, and
they complain that there is too
much going on at church. ,I call
on them to get into a soul -
growth process and learn to be
rid of hate and fear and greed,
and they complain that I'm
being nosey.
I call on them to be respon-
sible to God for the way they
vote, and they complain that
a od••has. no business in% olitics
(except to save America from
foreign powers). I call on them
to serve on the boards and
committees, and they complain
that nothing is being done, or
else that no one will listen to
their ideas.
I call on them to
because the Scripture
are run in large city centres
like Toronto. In Toronto, 20 to
30 tours are organized each
weekend, . he said. Mr.
Crawford sees the tours at-
tracting senior citizens and.
other people who lack means of
transportation.
"Our first bus tour is
restricted to senior citizens and
will leave Huronview at 1 p.m.
he said. Mr. Crawford will
drive the first tour bus and give
the tour narration, but hopes to
hire tour guides for subsequent
trips.
"The tours will publicize
themselves by word of mouth,"
he said. "People who have
taken a tour will tell their
friends about it who will then
take a tour themselves."
Going on the theory that
people enjoy mystery
destinations Mystery Bus
Tours may get quite a bit of
public response, says Mr.
Crawford.
