Mrs. Roobal prepared the devotional and spoke first and Mrs. Shaddick read a Mother's Day poem. Mrs. Harburn read the scripture from Mark, and Mrs: J. McAllister reada Mother's Day story "Hannah- a praying mother", after which Mrs. Flynn led in prayer. Mrs. Luther, substituting for Mrs. Britton gave the history of an old humn "Let the lower lights be burning" and sang the hymn. She then showed pic- tures compiled by the Salvation Army on the "Sights' and sounds of Newfoundland". Mrs. Sherritt gave the treasurer's report and Mrs. Rowe conducted a session for the provision of food ' for the General meeting on May 5, and for the Beef Barbeque• on May 28. Hymns were sung and Mrs. McAllister pronounced the benediction. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. United Church Notes Members of the Independent Order of Odd - fellows and Rebekahs of District Number 8, with Brother Harry Wade, Grand Master of Ontario, were the special. guests of Hensall -United Church Sunday mor- ning. District Deputy Grand Master Ernie Chipchase read the first lesson, and District Deputy President, Mrs. Jean Bridge, read the second lesson. Rev. Don Beck preached on the sermon topic "Freedom and Licence". Mrs. Turkheim accompanied the choir for the anthem "Holy, Holy, Holy". Sunday, May 11 is Christian Family, Sunday and Mother's Day, also the Sacrament of Infant Baptism. Achievement Day Achievement Day for the Zurich area 4-H clubs was held Saturday in the Zurich Public School, with 12 clubs taking part. Nancy McCurdy did the commentary for the Hensall clubs to model their blouses they had made. Hensall I "Smart Set" presented a skit entitled' "The right lines can flatter your - figure". Taking part in the skit were every member, Brenda Pepper, Dorothy Van Esbroeck, Nancy McCurdy, Marilyn Pepper, Cheryl Fuss, Dale Simmons, Susan Stretton and Debbie Reid. Hensall II "Sewing Sweethearts" set up an exhibit "Good, lines in dress for a short and- heavy girl". Sandra Nixon did the commentary. Other girls in this club were Kim Stewart, Donna Jean Allan, Barbara McCurdy, Mary Hovius, Linda Lenting, Janet Bilke and Karen Volland. Mrs. Ruth Axtmann, home economist from Walton, commentated on the exhibits, skits and demonstrations. Miss Jane Pengilley, home economist for Huron County presented -Mrs. William Fuss of Hensall and Mrs. O. 'Sch- wartzentruber of Zurich with a five year 4-H Leadership Award. Brenda Pepper and Susan Stretton both of Hensall received County Honours of a pin and certificate. By Blanche Deeves The congregation of St. James Middleton wish Rev. C. Youmatoff the very best on his trip to Ottawa. Mr. Du Boulay of Bayfield held the morning service at St. James, Middleton, Sunday in the absence of Rev. Youmatoff. The A.C.W. will meet at the home of Marion Smith on Wednesday May 14th, 8 p.m. The Youth Group of St. James Middleton Church wish to thank everyone who helped in their bottle drive. Personals A family gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobal in Hensall to honour their daughter and son- in-law Don and Maja Dodds of Seaforth on the occasion of their 15th wedding an- niversary. Lynn, Paul and Joan Dodds helped to distribute the gifts to which their parents thanked everyone most warmly. Attending the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Dodds, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Watson both of Seaforth, Mr. Ernie Toll, Egmondville, Mr. and Mrs. Larry McGregor, Bayfield, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGregor, Karen and Glen, Brucefield, Miss Louise , Lovett, Lon- desboro, and Mrs. Audrey Christie of Hensall. The choir-, was a- women's choir with • Louise Lovett at the organ and Ruth•Shaddick as choir leader. The song "My Task" and Sweet Story of Old". The children's story was led by Chrystal Jewitt reading "Writing a Book, making a Life". The message "what are we doing with our lives" was given by Margaret Whyt. Rev. McDonald welcomed all and thanked the ladies who so willingly took part in the ser- vice and choir. It was announced that the used clothing deadline is Monday, May 12th. Rev. Jim 'Ludford of Cedar Point, Christian Island, is expected to be with us and will speak at the Berean Unit meeting next week, when we hope to have a large at- tendance. All are welcome. The date will be announced next Sunday in church. Hl -C Variety Concert The annual Hi -C variety concert, held on Saturday, 'May 3rd at Hullett 'Central school, was a big success. The concert consisted of. eighteen numbers including entertainers from Vara, Walkerton, Clinton and, Seaforth as well as. the Lon- desboro area. Keith Nethery, a member of Hi -C, was the announcer and provided all necessary in- troductions. The program featured the play "A visit of Inspection" put on by the Hi -C members. Following the concert. lunch was , served to those who par- ticipated in the entertainment. Many thanks are sent out to the people attending the con- cert and a special thanks to all r. who took part. Personals Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Armstrong who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday,. April 29th with Open House when a large number of friends called to offer their good wishes. - Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Allen Bosman on the arrival of their daughter, Kelly Suzanne, in Clinton Hospital on Monday April 28th, ,a sister for Lisa. McDonald attended and assisted in conducting the wedding service in Formosa on Saturday for Jim Melvin and Geraldine Meyer. The wedding took place in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic church in Formosa. Visiting on Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook was her cousin, Mrs. Stan Jackson of Kippen. On Wednesday night, Rev. McDonald, Mrs. Townsend, Dorothy Little and Mrs. Joe Shaddick attended the presentation of "Oliver" by grade 8 class of Robertson Memorial School, Goderich. Mrs. Fred Armstrong, Hamilton; Mrs. Wm. At a recent seminar an respiratory diseases "herd 1~n' Geneva Park, Mrs. Charlotte Neigh, 111 Water pt., and Mrs. Beryl Davidson, 119 Wellington St., addressed the group re the "Better Breathing Classes" sponsored by the Huron Perth Lung Association. The seminar was a joint project of the Registered Nurses of Ontario and the Ontario TB and' Respiratory Disease Association, soon to become the Ontario Lung Association. Mrs. Davidson, was also part of the faculty of a recent International Conferencen Asthma held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, recently.
