James Neti, sr.. living about three miles from here had a narrow escape with' his life in the storm recently. He says they are the clean thing for bad roads. A few days ago one nf our neigh• bors sent for six loaves of bread with some of our boys who were going to town. The lads imbibing beer rather freely, and getting hungry ou the way home, ate some of the bread, and threw the rest on the roadside for tramps. Mr. Dunran MoEachen had a narrow escape, recently, from a wild - oat he shot at. At the time there were three four or men with him, and the oat foregoing its show of fight ran into a hollow log, when one of the men took the gun, and put the muzzle into the log, as far as he could reaob, and fired. Before he could remove the gun from the log the oat was out, and they all deeming discretion the better part of valor made for the nearest hotteet, which they reached safe.
