Eric LeDrew of Brussels was guest minister at Londesboro United Church on Sunday morning on exchange Sunday wh n Rev. Stan McDonald as at ' Walton. Greeters int the sanctuary were Reg. Lawson and Jack Tamblyn, while the ushers `were John Salverda, Darrell Shobbrook, Craig Miller and Keith -Howatt. The choir anthem was "I heard` the church bells ringing". Rev. LeDrew's children's story was "A minister and his six-year-old daughter, and his message was "at the ascension." Bowlers annual banquet On Thursday April 10th, 38 bowlers and their guests were present for their annual banquet and awards night of the Londesboro Men's Bowling League at the hall where the W.I. catered to a delicious hot beef dinner. .Rev. McDonald said grace and following the banquet, the ladies were thanked by Jack Snell and Jessie Tebbutt, replied for the W.I. A short business session was a held before president Joe Hunking called on Joe Atkin- son, proprietor of the crown lanes in Clinton, to present his t> trophy to the bowler with the top average, Jack Lee, who had a great year finishing with a 219 average. The high triple was won by Bert Lyon with a ft. sparkling 824. Doug Snell with his 325 was presented with high single trophy and Harry Lear received the most improved trophy with a plus 11. The trophy for the winning team was donated and presented by Joe Atkinson to captain Doug Snell of the "Tigers", who in turn presented individual trophies to team members. Gordon Radford, George Carter, John Radford, Harry Lear and Bruce Roy. Spares Gordon Howatt, Murray Adams, Henry Wilts and Bruce Shillingham were. presented anniversary coffee spoons. The May meeting will be taken by Helen Alexander and Laura Lyon and the roll pan will be "Your church membership at time of union in 1925. The study period was taken by Dora Shobbrook and Mary Longman, with a reading "Love is sharing" by Mary, "Our changing role in mission" explaining how we now help them to help themselves. It was taken from the Adult Mission Study. Dora gave a reading 'A trial in Korea' by Marg and they were favored by piano instrumentals by Laurel Duizer. Marg gave a reading and meeting closed with a hymn, and prayer. A lovely lunch was served by Hattie Wood and Dorothy Brunsdon, assisted by Jessie Jones. W.I. Installation The W.I. annual meeting and installation of officers was held on Wednesday night April 9. President Jessie Tebbutt welcomed all and roll call was answered by "something the Institute has taught me." The minutes of last .meeting and financial report read by secretary Margaret` Taylor. Communications included a thank -you from Jessie Jones, an invitation to attend Blyth W.I. on May 12th, a thank -you from Goderich mental retar- ded, and a letter saying the Dairy Queen would be willing to speak at the W.I. meeting. . Hazel Reid reported that hall curtains were hung and Ena Howatt reported for the Clinton Hospital Auxiliary Hospital Day, May 12th with a fashion show parade of nurses uniforms. Jessie Tebbutt reported on the district executive held at Auburn. A new Korean child had been adopted. Londesboro to supply musical number for West Huron disctict annual on May 26th in Blyth. Couples Bowling More than 60 persons at- tended the couples bowling league for their final night of the season at Clinton Crown Lanes: They returned to the church for lunch and presen- tation of awards. UCW meets The UCW meeting' was held in the basement of the Church on Thursday evening with 21 members present. The acting president for the month of April,.- Mrs. Doug McAsh, opened the meeting with a poem and group 3 was in charge of devotions: Mrs. Ivan McClymont opened with a call to worship, followed by a hymn. The Scripture was read by Mrs. John Ostrom. Mrs. Bill Dowson read from January "Observer" "Let us not weep for Donna". The offering was then taken up by Mrs. Ralph Stephenson and dedicated by Mrs. Charles Reid. A hymn read by Mrs. Tom Consitt closed the devotions. The business meeting con- tinued, and Mrs. Harvey Hayter read the minutes of the last meeting and took the roll call. Forty-eight calls were made to the sick and shut-in in March. Mrs. Bob Webster gave the treasurer's report. It was decided to have a dessert euchre on April 23 in Varna Township Hall at 1:30 with group 3 in charge. Mrs. John Ostrom, Mrs. Murvin Johnston, Mrs. Louis Taylor, Mrs. Gordon Johnston, and Mrs. Gordon Hill were. nominated to form a committee for an anniversary project. There will be a plant sale at the May meeting. The meeting was closed by the Lords Prayer and lunch was served by hostesses Mrs. John Ostrom, Mrs. Murvin Johnston, Mrs. Bill Chessell, and Mrs. Ivan McClymont. Full House There was a full hall at Varna for the final evening of the season of card parties spon- sored by the Varna Orange Lodge at which the Bradley Family were enjoyed by all. Court Constantine • Court Constantine L 1842 held their monthly meeting on April 10th in the hall. Business discussed was the April 4 Dance cancelled and to be held on May 23rd at Family Paradise with the Silvertones providing the music. April 17th is the day the District ' Council Annual meeting will be held on the Cranbrook Hall in the form of a dinner and dance. Carolyn Thompson's youth committee are in charge of the Chicken Barbecue to be held on June 29th for the Centennial in Seaforth. Court Constance and Con- stantine are making plans for their chicken barbecue to be held at the hall the first part of June.
