The Gossip Column BY ROBIN ADAMS S1.O AN
Q: I saw a picture of Shirley
MacLeine kissing her brother,
Warren Beatty, at his
"Shampoo" movie. Is it true
they'll never talk about each
other to reporters or anybody?
—J.W., Burlington, Vt.
A: When both were trying to
make it, the siblings usually
cooled it with family chit-chat.
But Shirley and• Warren have
had a lot to say recently. Not
long back Shirley analyzed.
her own and Warren's sex
attitudes: "I think Warren
really eniovs sex. but I enjoy
other things more. I •like sex,
but it wouldn't bother me if I
went for long periods of time
without it... There are many
things I really essentially
need, and sex isn't one of
them. I think it ,is with
Warren... What appeals to me
sexually is always someone's
mind, imagination, sense of
humor. That is all very sexy
stuff to me. Whereas with
Warred, evidently the act
itself is what is sexy." Do you
call that talking?
MUSIC,. MUSIC, MUSIC:
Jim Croce's widow will gather
up all the scraps of paper,
matchbook covers and
napkins on which her late
husband scribbled words. She
plans to release these "un-
finished songs" in a new Croce
album... Mick Jagger is
considering putting out an LP
of vintage Rolling Stones
takes from among 100
unreleased Stones numbers..,
Jeff Wald and Helen Reddy
know how to live. They've got
a soda fountain in their
bedroom.
Q: William Colby, CIA
Director, told a Congressional
investigating committee that
continual prying into the
secrets of his organization
might cost the lives of CIA
overseas agents. Has it? —
R.E., Sweetwater, Tex.
A: There are those who
believe that a recent, terse
announcement from Russia,
that a V.G. Kalinin had been
executed as a "spy from the
West," was reporting the sort
of thing Colby was•afraid of. In
any case, CIA operatives
abroad are said to be Iying low
lately, with the British in-
telligence network taking over
some of their workload.
BLIND AS A BAT ITEM:'
Now there• IS the pop rock idol
who has lost his wife, lost
several important. members of
his group, lost a lot of dough on
bad gigs, is getting bad-
mouthed for underpaying• so
he can't find band
replacements and is heavy

into drugs. Outside of that,
he's perfectly fine.
Q: Anything new on Richard
Burton's marriage to the
Princess? Just curious? —
G.M., Portland, Maine
A: As has been widely
printed, the marriage has
been off and on for months.
But those close to the princess
say she has really had it with
his drinking. As a "royal" she
was convinced she was the one t"
who could make him stop. Her
influence on him was con-
siderable, for a time. In fact,
many think his attack on
Churchill was because of the
way the late English prime
minister treated her father,
Prince Paul, during the war.
But as for marriage, at last
reports, even his Welsh charm
isn't working.
Q: Is Bob Hope still the
richest of the Hollywood
celebrities? — G.N., Waco,
Tex.
A These are things only
your accountant knows for
sure, but here's` a recently
published run-down: Hope —
$800 million; Crosby — $500
million; Gene Autry — $200
million; Fred MacMurray and
Roy Rogers — $100 million.
Frank Sinatra is also reported
in the $100 million class, with
James Garner moving up fast.
Hope says that Steve
McQueen is. showing signs of
financial wizardry and will be
in the big leagues soon. We
think all these figures are high
and ought to be cut at least in
half... after all Vice President
Rockefeller only admitted to
some $400 million.
