April 18 AT CLINTON ARENA 9 t 12 Lunch provided 15b Here is the trumpet section of the"Clinton Centennial Band. Back row are Bill Murphy, left, and Jeff Hearn. Seated are left to right, Ian Reid, Frank Van Altena and Steve Roy. Missing were Kathy De Boer and Phillip Bridges. (photo by Jack Hunt) Meet your Centennial Band BY SEAMUS DOHERTY Gabriel, Harry James "Satchmo", Eddie Calvert and many others too numerous to mention were all in- ternationally known for their individual "horn" playing and their original styles. Gabriel plays celestial music, which none of us have yet heard, Harry James specialized in classical jazz, "Satchmo" was famous for his dixieland music, and Eddie Calvert for interpretive ballads This is the versatility of the trumpets. Your Centennial Band boasts seven trumpeters. Granted, they can not be classed or compared with the Great Trumpeters already' men- tioned. Only two milestones separate your trumpeters from my list of Trumpet idols; ex= perience, which is limited by age and style, which is developed through practice and determination. It is impossible for me to predict that all seven musicians from - your Cen- tennial Band will ever achieve the heights.of 'greatness, but it is not impossible for any of the seven trumpeters in your band to strive towards greatness and reach their goal. All that is required to start these . young people toward this goal is en- couragement both in the home. and in public. An opportunity to show en- couragement and support will be provided you by Corrie Haak and her special projects committee on two occasions, one at a "get to • know your band" night, featuring "Euchre Bingo" which will be held on April 29th at the Public School, Clinton, starting at 7:30 p.m. and the other at a chocolate bar campaign when members of your Band will sell chocolates leading up to and during the Clinton spring fair in June. The latter on approval of the parents. Support your band. Hullet's happenings Evening movie On Thursday March 27 in Hullett Central School, there was a filin "Tonka" sponsored by the students' council. A silver collection was taken at the door and a good crowd was in attendance. "Tonka", a wild horse, was tamed and then set free. Later there was a battle and Tonka and the Indian were almost killed, but they survived and Tonka was ridden every day. Grade two assembly With the help of their teacher, Mrs. Walter, the students from grade two presented an ex- cellent assembly on March 27. To open the assembly, "0 Canada" was sung. Next the chairman, Jeff McNairn, an- nounced a dance which some of the pupils performed. After a group of pupils gave a Country Singles Dance SAT. APRIL 12 c. short poem on., spring, Laurie Bell did some step dancing. Next, Susan Van Egmond played a solo on the piano. The high light of the program was the "Little Red Riding ,Hood" play which ended the assembly. • Students' Council The students' council, with the help of Mr. Riley, has planned and put into action several events and activities for the enjoyment of students, parents and teachers during the first and second term of this school year.
