Series goes the limit
Holmesville upsets Goderich
The Holmesville Clere-Vu
Wreckers fought back from
relative obscurity to capture
the Central Huron Hockey
league championship last
Wednesday defeating Goderich
gold.
Holmesville,' :the underdogs
by virtue of1eir fourth place
finish at the 'hd of the `r`e'gular
season, won four of their five
playoff games for the cham-
pionship.
The Clere-Vu squad were all
but counted out of the series by
their opponents because of
trouble they encountered
fielding a complete team
during the season. They
frequently played games with
only eight or nine players
dressed and blamed the poor
turnout for their last place
finish for the finals.
The playoffs were a different
story for the underdogs. Team
captain Bill Hoggarth said the
players realized they had
"something going" and put
together a strong team effort to
make their mark in 'the
playoffs.
Doubling their regular lineup
the Holmesville team dressed
14 players for the final game, as
they did for most of both series,
and surprised the Goderich
entry in the best of three finals.
In 'the championship game
Bill Hoggarth picked up the
puck in the corner and centered

it hitting a Goderich defen-
ceman. The puck deflected off
the defender and squirted by
goalie Bill Hutchins for the
winner midway through the
final period. Keeping up the
pressure Hoggarth boomed a
slapshot from the blue line that
the Goderich goalie stopped.
Don Crawford, alone in the slot,
picked up the rebound and
poked it by Hutchins for the
insurance goal making the final
score 5-3.
The first game of the final
was a frustration for
Holmesville. They outshot and
outplayed Goderich throughout
. the game but were consistently
held at bay by the ,-DRMCo
netminder. Clere-Vu goalie
Glenf Silson had the breaks
going against him on a couple
of deflections and DRMCo won
the contest 5-3.
Wilson _ was "sharp in the
second game of the series
giving up only two goals to the
Goderich shooters while his
teammates hit for five to even
the series. The final game
Wednesday was the thriller for
Clere-Vu.
"It's the end of a' dynasty,"
said Holmesville captain Bill
Hoggarth. "Goderich has been
on lop .for _the, mt. ,four years
and have won the cup twice. We
broke their bubble."
The semi-final was a sweep
for Holmesville. Pitted against
