Authori- zation was voted for the execu- tive at the MVCA annual meeting Friday in Brussels in the•form of a motion stating: "That the Authority accept ownership of the Lower Dam and pond . . . (but) will not guarantee • the re- construction of the dam ... and that the proposal for rehabilita- tion of the area, which would be mitually acceptable to the Au- thprity, the.Conservataion Author-, ities and the Town of Wingham be prepared." Both MVCA chairman Jack Graul and Resources Manager Ian DesLauriers explained the motion would become effective only "if and when" Wingham au- thorities finally decided what they wished to do in the situation. Mr. DesLauriers carefully de- fined the situation for new MVCA members, using maps and charts of the area. He stressed that the passing of the motion would im- pose no commitments on the MVCA. During a break in the meeting, Mr. DesLauriers said that the MVCA, if approached by the Wingham authorities to take over the lower -dam an& pond, would„ almost certainly decide not to re- ' build the dam. The meeting was opened by prayer with the vice-president Dorothy Parker in charge. The worship service "The perfect foun- dation" was conducted by Mary Brinthell. The roll call was answered by each of the members reading a Bible verse. Correspondence was in the forhi of a letter from the area president at Listowel, and also a letter concerning sending parcels • to Angola. There were thank -you notes from Mrs. Sararas, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brock. The World Day of Prayer will be on March 7 at 3 p.m. in Hensall Burch.... Members were reminded of visiting the Queensway. Nur- sing Home during the month of March, and also of the UCW Church service on February 23 with Rev. Ann Langford at the Hensall United Church. The March meeting was reviewed and the meeting was closed Nith prayer. Ardys Glenn was in charge of the lunch. Hensall 4-H The second meeting held the Hensall 14 H Club Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Bill Fuss. The meeting -- opened with the pledge followed by the roll call "From ll your personal analysis, ha t your activities are". A title page was picked out for Hensall I, but a name was not decided upon. They also discussed the colour and pat- , won't decide to ' repair it," he said. He explained that a major factor in the decision would be the costs involved. Mr. DesLaur- iers said that about 1$100,000 of MVCA funds had already gone toward dam and pond mainte- nance in,the past, and that an es- timated $18,000 alone would be needed for engineering studies. Cost estimates for dam repairs were quoted at one million dol- lars, with one estimate at one -and -a -half million, he said. An alternate suggestion for about 90 per cent less cost than repair would be a by-pass pond. Mr. DesLauriers said the by-pass pond would be just as effective in that area and much more practi- cal. He explained that if the MVCA accepted ownership of the • area, it would obligate itself ,to maintain the 15-20 acres involved and that Authority ownership could pave the way for grants for landscaping and maintenance. The MVCA motion puts the onus for the fifist step onto the Wingham authorities. The deci- sion and responsibility have been batted back and forth several times since the original collapse of the dam in May 1974, and are now back in Wingham'$ territory. Wingham authorities tern of clothing one should wear according to one's height, bust and figure. The next meeting will be held on February p.m. at Mrs. Fuss' home. Help your Heart...
