The well -rested Hahne came out fast and outskated the Mustangs for the most part of the first period. Clinton - was fortunate to get out of the first frame only one goal down. In the second New Hamburg struck quickly . again and in- creased their lead to a 5-2 margin by the six minute mark. The Mustangs refused to give A started hard and fast, securing a 2-0 lead at the encs of the first period. New Hamburg came out angry in the second and the hitting became fast •and furious. There was a melee at` the 11:26 mark of that period resulting in several players being ejected. The Hahns seemed to thrive- in this at- mosphere and counted twice. The period ended in a 3-2 score in favour of the Mustangs. In *4 up and fought back to within one goal by the end of two. The third period was representative of the entire game, with the Mustangs fighting back to tie the score 5-5, then dropping behind again. The score was 7-6 for the Hahns with less than one minute remaining when Keith Yantzi scored for New Ham- burg, putting the game . out of reach for Clinton. Yantzi counted again thirteen seconds later and the match ended in a 9-6 final score in favour of the home town Hahns. Scoring for the Mustangs were Paul Kelly and Dan Colquhoun with two goals each, and singles going to Brian Kennedy and Zeke Fremlin. e Mik P 1 lead the final period penalties galore and inconsistant officiating resulted in extremely bad feelings on either side. There were many less than com- plimentary remarks echoing off the aged walls of the New Hamburg arena. At 7:31 of the third Clinton coach Bill Weber was ejected from the game by the referee who by that time was wishing that he had never learned how to skate. Trainer, Brian "Sly" Kennedy took over and directed the Clinton club to a well deserved 6-5 win, Clinton scoring was split between Mike Gibbings, Paul Kelly and Steve Cook with 2 goals each. Clinton won the first game at home 2-1 and Seaforth won the second game 3-2. This set the stage for the final game in Seaforth. At the end of regulation time the score was 2-2. In the overtime period Clinton scored 2 goals and Seaforth one goal. Scoring for Clinton were Jim Fleming, Paul Stephenson, Ian Peck and Jeff Taylor getting the winner. Willi ft . lay ed a superb .game between the pipes CLINTON - 4 NEW HAMBURG -1 ' Last Sunday evening, Clinton fans got their first taste of the playoff' action as the Hahns were in town for the second game of this semi-final series. The Mustangs reacted to a relatively good home town crowd with a fine performance, outplaying New Hamburg consistantly throughout the flame. Clinton recovered from 1-0 first period deficit and controlled the majority of second and third period play, scoring twice . in each stanza. The forwards were backed up by a steady defence and some fine play by goalie, Henry Olechowski. Barry Lane,scored twice for Clinton and singles went to Neil Colquhoun and Paul Kelly. New Hamburg for Clinton stopping Seaforth on Jottings from Carnival - Events The Clinton Winter Carnival was a gre success for St. Joseph's artistic talents in a poster contest. Three posters from each grade were selected to enter. In grade eight, two of three posters won awards - Brenda Priestap taking a first and Jackie Brand with a third. In grade six, Jeff Schmidt was awarded a second, Henrietta Boan received a first for the grade three level. The representatives for our school were Brenda Priestap and Chris Middleton, both grade eight students - they were chosen to do the in- troductions • for "Children's numberous occasions, and was picked by Clinton fans as the first star of the game. Madill Mustangs in their final home game of the regular season. The Redmen dumped the Mustangs by a score of 58- 42, and with the victory secured a playoff spot. - The Redmen, came out roaring, and stormed to a 20-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The play by both sides was not the best as both teams made a number of turnovers. Both teams have a 5 record with - the winner capturing third spot. On Friday, February 21st, there is an exhibition game at the C.H.S.S. auditorium. The Senior Redmen play against the Grads, a team made up of former Senior Redmen players who have graduated. Game time is at 8 p.m. and it is hoped everyone intersted will attend. • Mitchell evens series , Larry Labelle's sixth goal of the game at the 4:10 mark of the overtime period gave the Mitchell Red Devils a 9-8 victory over the Clinton Colts. The Colts had fought back from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game on Mark Jenkin's goal after regulation time. It was a tough defeat for the Colts as they outhustled and outshot Mitchell (39-27) during the contest. Randy Duffy scored a pair of goals for Mitchell while Gerry Hishon added a solo effort. For the Colts, Mel Hohner and Scott Parks scored a pair of goals each while single tallies went to Greg Burns, Rick Fremlin and PAGE. great goaltending from Gary Black and held on to edge the Mitchell squad 3-2. Clinton downs Seaforth The last game of the three game series against Seaforth was played in Clinton. The final score was 5-2 for Clinton. Two first period goals were scored -by --Paul Pr-iestap-__nnd Dave Counter. Assisting these goals were Frank Studney and Paul Robinson. One second period goal for Clinton was scored by Mike Gibbings with Paul Priestap and Dave Counter assisting. Two . third period goals were scored by Rick Taylor and Frank Flynn. Picking up assists were Len Mills, Rick Taylor and Frank Flynn. The first Western Ontario Semi-finals was played `against Mitchell in Clinton Saturday night last. All first period goals were scored by Mitchell, Clinton came back and tied it up in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Robert Heard scored both these visited on Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Turner. of Auburn. Susan De Groof of Clinton spent the weekend with Kerri Medd.
