Cancer Society sets goal for 1975 The Ontario Division of the Canadian Cancer Society has set a goal for 1975 of $5.6 million in its annual drive while the objective of the Huron County branch of the society will be $29,500. Delegates from Cancer Society units across Ontario attended, a two-day cam- paign conference in Toronto January 25 and 26 to organize the April fund- raising drive. Local delegates attending the conference included Huron County chairman Ross McDaniel; Goderich cam- paign chairman Les Pit- blado; Goderich vice- chairman Harold Chase; and Huron County– secretary ° ' `i11lrs • Helen • RatlY i4 l' of Clinton. • Division Campaign Chairman, Mike Wilson of Toronto, told the 500 volunteers that the 1975 objective is the largest ever and depends upon the donations of the people of Ontario. He said cancer research in Canada is dependant upon these donations. Mr. Wilson was confident that the volunteer workers could meet this objective. The volunteers received hints from veteran group workers on organizing community campaigns and a number of doctors from Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital discussed research development in the treat- ment of ranePr • Bad Buckles The older the car, the less likely the driver is to be wearing a safety belt at the time of an accident, states the Ontario Safety League. According to a study at the University of North Carolina, there are three possible reasons: (1) as cars get older, belts and belt buckles may become damaged and more difficult to operate; (2) older vehicles are frequently driven around town instead of on extended highway trips; (3) as vehicles become older, they are more often driven by the young, who are less likely to use safety belts. r `A 1..
