Annual Congregational The Annual congregational meeting of the Hensall United Church was held January 29, preceded by a delicious pot luck supper. Following the supper, Shirley McAllister conducted a very entertaining glimpse at activities of the church 50 yearsago.b .S a was assisted byDorothyrothY Mick le, Pat Cook, Elva Forrest, Rena Caldwell and Grace Drummond. Dorothy Mickle led a choir of older members ,of the Church, Elgin Rowcliffe, Harry Horton, Harry Hoy, Pearl Erratt, tt, Robert ob ert P McAllister, Grace Peck, Greta 'Laramie and Nan Britton. They sang older hymns of the Church ac- companied on the piano by Myrtle Sherritt. Pat Cook read interesting portions from a 50 year old book of the Trustee Board, and Elva Forrest talked about Sunday School picnics 50 years ago. Rev. Don Beck opened the annual - meeting with scripture meditation • and prayer. It was moved that Elva Forrest act as secretary for the meeting. A moment of silence was held for those who had passed away during the past year. The annua-1 report was reviewed with Cecil Pepper explaining , the treasurer's report, Doreen Spencer the UCW report and Doug Cook reporting for the Trustees. The budget was discussed and accepted. Ian McAllister thanked those who were retiring from the board, and expressed hope that they would con- tinue to serve the Church in the future ,Vacancies on the following committees were filled for a three year term. Ian McAllister expressed the thanks of the congregation to Rev. Don and Mrs. Beck for their faithful service and presented them with a gift, to which they made fitting replies. .. Rev. Don Beck also thanked all the workers in the Church for their co- operation during the past year. Mike Beck showed slides of happenings in the Church during the past year, and Rev. Beck closed the meeting with the benedic- tion. United Church Notes Mr. Earle Shap ter t er provided the special music for. the Service of Worship in Hensall United Church Sunday morning. He sang a solo, "Fea not ye, 0 Israel", accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Turkheim. Rev. Don Beck preached on the sermon topic "Christ's Ambassadors" The flowers placed in the Church were from 'the funeral. of Mrs. Hugh (Polly) McMurtrie on Saturday. Kinettes Canvass The Kinette Club of Hensall canvassedthe village of Hensall on Monday evening for 'the Ability Fund, and collected a total of $270 which will be sent in to the Ability Fund. The Kinette Club is sponsoring' .free skating on Saturday, February 15 from 2 to 4 at the Hensall arena. Obituary Mrs. Hugh (Polly) McMurtrie, the former Mary Cochrane of Hensall passed away at South Huron Hospital in Exeter on Wednesday, January 29, 1975 in her 86th year. Surviving are one son Alex of R.R. 3, Kippen; two brothers, James Cochrane, Toronto, William Cochrane, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Edna) Robinson, Napanee, Mrs. Ross (Ida) Dick, Nova Scotia, Mrs. Agnes Northey, Cameron Ontario, also one grand- daughter Mrs. Carol Hillier, Thamesford, and three great grandsons, John, .Steven and James Hillier. • The late Mrs. McMurtrie rested at the Bonthron Funeral Home in Hensall where Funeral service was Scane (chairman) Lloyd -._held on February 1 with Rev. Council Meeting The grade seven history class, accompanied by .Mr. MacLennan, attended the inaugural meeting of Hullett Township • Council on January 13, 1975. The class is studying diferent levels of govern- ment .nc attended. the inaugural ceremony to meet the members of the local government. The pupils asked questions about the duties and problems that are faced by the township council. Those who attended seemed to be interested in the proceedings and to ap- , preciate the opportunity of observing the oath of office being administrated to the elected officials. Museumobile visits School On Wednesday, January• visited. ile u mob 15• a muse Hullett Central School from the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. The displays and information were about Indians and archaeology. Both grade seven and grade eight visited the mobile unit, but before entering the museumobile, they viewed a film about the Miller Archaeology Site near Pickering, Ontario,..The„ „bus, 'contained artifacts and in- formation about natives throughout the last 12,000 years. Afterwards, the pupils filled in information sheets which were later discussed. The knowledge of the classes about Indians and their ways of life was greatly increased by this tour. - Personal Plano lessons Every , Thursday at the schoolnine pupils from both junior and senior wings have piano lessons. • Each child has a private 30 minute lesson. Mrs. Gail Lear, who is the instructor, is at the school all day each Thursday. The following pupils take piano lessons: Julie Snell, Karen Durnin, Barb Carter, Susan Jamieson', Sally" Pollard, Kevin Radford, Kathy Radford, Teresa Konarski and Laurel Duizer. Hullett versus Clinton January 22, was an ex- citing day for Hullett. Both the girls' and boys' teams played two volleyball games at. Clinton. Altogether, there were . four games. Hullett won three of them, and the boys' team from Clintonwon Y one. Clinton teams were good sports •and gave us three cheers:q Personals Mr. Bert Shobbrook is a patient in Clinton Hospital, having had gall bladder surgery on Friday morning. We wish him a speedy recovery. r_ Mr. - and Mrs. Ralph Davidson returned home from spending Saturday to Wednesday in Bowmanville attending the funeral of her aunt, Mrs. Frank Allen.
