The greeters were Karry Lear and Jack Lee . The ushers were ' Explorers Brenda Millar, Carol Cartwright, Christine . Carter and Joyce Sewers. their The Explorers, faders Mrs. Teilman Westerhout and Mrs. Howard Cartwright, and the messengers with their leader Mrs. Ted Hunking occupied the centre front seats. The Scripture was read by Explorer Susan Jamieson. The music was supplied by the Snell family: Bonnie (Mrs. Ross Jenitt) ; Betty (Mrs. Ben Jenitt) ; Robbie and Rick Snell with Barbara (Mrs. Allen Bosman) at the piano. They sang "Turn your radio on" and "The Lord's my Shepherd". Rev. McDonald's message was "As His custom was". Please keep in mind the annual congregational meeting beginning with a family pot luck supper on Friday, January 24. hymn. Lunch was served by Mrs. " E. Howatt, Mrs. E. Wood and Mrs. B. Shob- brook. W.I,.Card Party There were 14 tables r in play at the WI•card party on Friday night, January 17. Prize winners were: ladies' high, Margaret Taylor; lone hands, Betty Hulley; low, Kim Duchar- me; men's high, Ed Brooks; lone hands, Stella Adams (playing as a man) ; low, Verna Gibbings (playing as a man) . There, will be another card party on January 31 at 8:30 p.m. In charge will be Mrs. Gourley, Mrs. Tores, Mrs. Howatt and Mrs. T. Allen. Personals Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Ed Bell and family on the death of Mr. Bell sud- Berean Unit The Berean unit held their meeting on January 14 in the church hall. The president, Mrs. Gourley, welcomed all and a hymn was sung. Mrs. Gourley gave the meditation with a reading what is the New Year?, followed by prayer. The minutes of last meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs.. Lloyd Pipe, and thank -you notes were read from Margie Whyte and Jim Neilans. The roll call was answered by 12 mem- bers paying fees. Plans are being made for the manse Centennial. Mrs. L. Pipe and Mrs. Robinson will be in charge of February meeting to be held at Mrs. Davidsons. The Huron -Perth Presbyterial' is to be held on February 26 at 9:30 a.m. in Trinity United Church, Listowel. Mrs__1-Towatt gave the 1974 `hard report, and Mrs. Durnim on bales and mittens handed in. Those who are to clean brass in the church in March are Mrs. B. Shob- brook; April, Mrs. L. Lyon; May, Mrs. E. Wood;, June, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Sun- dercock. Mrs. Gourley gave the study program and she spoke on the first churches in Canada, and also ex- plained the United Church crest. Mrs: Harry Durnin gave reading "The Strike" and the meeting closed with a denly at his hdme on Saturday. Mrs. Dorothy Brunsdon returned home on Monday night after spending the past seven weeks with .. 'her daugter, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Holdway of. Dallas; Texas. Kim Ducharme of Brussels spent the weekend with her aunt, Mrs. Howard Clarke.' Mr. Ted Hunking attended the Shouldice reunion in Toronto on "the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shaddick and children returned home on Saturday from spending a week in Nova Scotia where they visited friends. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cowan and Greg of Har>tbver visited on Sunday with his mother, Mrs.`G. Cowan. Miss Lloy Shaddick of Kitchener spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. 'Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Wall and family moved recently from the former Luther Sanders residence to Sarnia. Mr.. and Mrs. Dave Collins of Walton visited recently with Mr. Carl Merner, Sandy, Julie Ann, Michael and Michelle. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Harris of Paisley visited on Saturday with Mrs. Jack Medd and Kerri. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Merner and Jason of Mount Brydges visited on Saturday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Merner Sandy, Julie Ann, Michael and Michelle. 7. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Preszcator Bill, Debbie and Michael, and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Preszcator visited over the weekend with Mr." and Mrs. Ralph Glew and boys of Dorchester and with Mrs. Mervyn Webb and girls of London. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stevenson on the birth of a daughter on Sunday January 19 in Seaforth Community Hospital Mrs. William Storey attended a family shower for Nancy Eckert in St. Patricks School Dublin on Sunday afternoon prior to her marriage in February to Jack Storey. Foresters Family Bowling was held on Sunday evening in the Clinton Bowling Lanes with good attendance, with 6 lanes playing. Mr. and Mrs. Sam McClure and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson McClure attended the taping of the T V show "Night Out' on Monday evening, along with the Old Time Dance Club of Clinton. Mrs. June , Boussey of Clinton was the winner in the Centennial Flag contest, un- deceived the prize of 100 50 cent pieces from decorating chairman Roy Wheeler. The flag features blue stripes over a red background, with a gold crest. The judges were Mrs. B.A. Zablocki, Mr. Wheeler, and Mrs. Rita Ryan. MODULAR HOME t1MITED Specialized in Mobile and Modular }Lome • Installation Services and Repairs' Sales and Installation of Patio and Veranda GRAND BEND, Ontario Authority given two grants The Honourable Leo Bernier, Minister of Natural Resources, announced the approval of a provincial grant of $11,100, to the Maitland Valley Con- servation Authority for the proposed Sharp's Creek 'Wildlife Preserve. The Authority has an outgoing program of acquiring lands on Sharp Creek and its head waters in the Saratoga Swamp for the purposes of maintaining water storage, wildlife habitat, fisheries values and groundwater supplies in the area. The Authority now proposes to acquire a 100 - acre parcel of land in the Township of Colborne for the establishment of the Sharp's Creek Wildlife Preserve. There are no buildings on the site. Sharp Creek crosses the property at the south- east corner. The land is low and swampy at the south boundary rising slightly to the north. While the property is densely wooded, the timber has no marketable value at the present time. The Authority also received approval of a provincial grant of $21,000 for the Wroxeter Con- servation Area. This Area comprises 2.21 acres of land, in the police Village of Wroxeter, Township of Howick, on which is located buildings .that serve as the Authority offices and workshop. Reassessment' was required due to repidly rising costs involved in capital development of the area including renovations to the headquarters building, improvements to the workshop, further planting in the demonstration ar- boretum, fencing to protect the property from snowmobiles, improvements to the service road and parking area and other general development work. All member municipalities will hear the Authority s share of the cost. Sunday Service at St. James Church Middleton had Rev. P. Du Boulay of Bayfield in charge in the absence of Rev. Youmatoff with Brigdr. G.L.M. Smith also of Bayfield assisting. Mr. Smith read the lesson, also giving the sermon on "The Holy Land" 'and its history explaining in detail with his map of the Holy Land. The Youth Group of St. James Church, Middleton elected a new slate of officers with their new president, Bill Proctor; vice- president Tauri Thurlow ; secretary, Trina Connolly: treasurer, Len Mills. On January 16 the Youth Group met at the home of Bill Proctor they chose to "ptrt- a float in the Carnival parade. On Sat. afternoon the Youth Group met at Len Mills and started to work on their float. The A.C.W. will have a card party at St. James Church, Middleton on Friday ' night, January 24 at 8 p.m. Ladies bring lunch. , Shower A Community shower was held at St. James Church, Middleton for Kathleen. Steen- stra. Estelle Wise greeted everyone. Lois 'Wise was in charge, of the games with Teri VanDongen, Chris Wise, Brenda Wise and Barb Wise assisting in NV held Friday at gt. James Church, Middleton with the winners being: Mrs. R. Rawden „ladies' high; Bill Brand, men's high; Mrs.. Connolly, ladies low; Don Middleton, men's low. 'Jim Conolly won the lone hands and Mr. Don •Middleton won the birthday prize - his 35th?? There was a -eery successful Auction with Jack Smith doing his usual good job of Auc- tioneering. Ed being in- vited to' go along, left by bus Monday evening to 'attend the T V show "Night Out" in Kit- chener,, which will be on the air March 2111, 28th, and April 4th. We had 47 on the bus and stopped on the way home at a diner, arriving back in Clinton about 1:30 a.m. Everyone had a real good time, but were a little tired. The Youth group had a meeting Sunday evening at the home of Cindy Middleton and their next meeting will be at Trina Connolly's home.
