Authority given two grants
The Honourable Leo
Bernier, Minister of Natural
Resources, announced the
approval of a provincial
grant of $11,100, to the
Maitland Valley Con-
servation Authority for the
proposed Sharp's Creek
'Wildlife Preserve.
The Authority has an
outgoing program of
acquiring lands on Sharp
Creek and its head waters in
the Saratoga Swamp for the
purposes of maintaining
water storage, wildlife
habitat, fisheries values and
groundwater supplies in the
area.
The Authority now
proposes to acquire a 100 -
acre parcel of land in the
Township of Colborne for the
establishment of the Sharp's
Creek Wildlife Preserve.
There are no buildings on
the site. Sharp Creek crosses
the property at the south-
east corner. The land is low
and swampy at the south
boundary rising slightly to
the north. While the property
is densely wooded, the
timber has no marketable
value at the present time.
The Authority also
received approval of a
provincial grant of $21,000
for the Wroxeter Con-
servation Area.
This Area comprises 2.21
acres of land, in the police
Village of Wroxeter,
Township of Howick, on
which is located buildings
.that serve as the Authority
offices and workshop.
Reassessment' was
required due to repidly
rising costs involved in
capital development of the
area including renovations to
the headquarters building,
improvements to the
workshop, further planting
in the demonstration ar-
boretum, fencing to protect
the property from
snowmobiles, improvements
to the service road and
parking area and other

All member municipalities
will hear the Authority s
share of the cost.
