Brantford, then dropped a 5.4.
decislorr -to -the New -Hamburg
Hahne at home Sunday night.
The four points they picked up
in the three encounters kept
them in third place in Division
Two of. the Central Junior "C"
league. Despite their loss to the
division leading Halms, the team
is playing quite well of late and
supporters are. hoping for a
strong finish in the final three
weeks of scheduled play.

Owen Sound —2
Last Tuesday, the Centennial
Mustangs travelled north to
meet the Owen Sound
Salvagemen in what turned out
to be a close -checking game.
The Salvagemen used the same
game -plan they have, tried
against the Mustangs all year,
which was to try to slow the
pace of the match and force the
Clinton players into mistakes.
Clinton started slowly, and
allowed the Owen Sound team -to
score the fifst goal at 14:00
minutes of that period. It was
the Salvagemen's captain, Doug
McCloud who banged in the
puck from a goal -mouth
scramble in front of Clinton
goalkeeper, Dean Ryan.
. The Mustangs picked up the
pace in the second frame and
tallied three times, outshooting
their opponents 21 to 8. Clinton
hung on to their lead in the third
and counted again on an
unassisted effort by Randy
Millar who was the outstanding
player of the game.
Newcomer, Henry Olechowski,
replaced Dean Ryan in goal for
the Mustangs in the final period
and was very effective in
stopping any Owen Sound at-
tempt to stage a comeback. *

11. 'was, another long road trip
in' bad weather ler the Juniors to
Brantford on Thursday evening
for an 8 p.m. game. The team
however, gave a fine account of
themselves, playing their brand
of fast moving hockey. Their
play evoked praise and ad-
miration from the Brantford
players and fans.
The. . Mustangs consistantly
beat their opponents to the puck
and their passing game was
sharp from start to. finish.
Clinton fore -checked the
Brantford club into making
several costly errors and even
seemed to carry the play when
shorthanded.
Neil Colquhoun was the big
gun for Clinton, with three goals
and one asist. Brian Lane added
two goals in what was an out-
standing effort. Lane led the
team in checking and
playmaking and was an ef-
fective hitter throughout the
affair. Singles for the Mustangs
were added by Jamie Thomp-
son, Randy Millar, and Paul
Kelly.
New Hamburg — 5)
Clinton —4
At home on Sunday evening
last, it was again a small
Clinton crowd that turned out to
support the Mustangs. It was a
strange sort of game with the
two teams moving the -puck
well, but making errors from
time to time which caused the
scoring plays for either side.
Clinton started fast and led
after the first'period by a score
of 2-1 on goals by Barry Lane
and Neil Colquhoun.
However, in the second, the
bv
, defensive style which as it
turned out, was their fatal error.
The New. Hamburg team
counted four unanswered goals
in that period and led after two

In the final period, Brian
"Sly" - Kennedy subbing for
ailing coach Bill Weber, rallied
the Mustangs to a valiant
comeback attempt. Clinton
counted twice. in the third and
fell short by only one goal in an
exciting finish.
Scoring for. the Mustangs in
the last period were John
lylommersteeg and Randy
Millar. Playing a very steady
game on defense for Clinton was
John artiliti'm of Bayfield, who
in his first year of Junior hockey
has proved to be a welcome
addition to the team.
The Mustangs travel to
Listowel for a game on Friday
night- and this 'coming Sunday,
the Listowel club will be here
for a game at the Clinton Arena
at 7:30 p.m. These two games
will decide third place in the
division and the team hopes to
have some good fan support for
Sunday's game. It would be a
welcome change.
