The Festival of the Nine
Lessons was observed " in
Trinity Anglican Church on
Sunday morning Dec. 22. Itis
hard to say when this Festival
originated, but its reason is
plain. In the time of rejoicing at
the birth of our Lord, as many
people as possible took turns in
telling the Christmas story.
Between each telling or lesson,
the congregation showed its joy
by. singing of the events that.
had taken place. This tradition
is followed'in Trinity, Bayfield.
This year the lessons were
read by Brig. Morgan Smith,
Mr. Archie Couper, Dr. G.H.
Shepherd,,Mriss-Kay Reid; Miss
Barbara •Graham; 'MI'. Philip
DuBoulay, Mrs. Moira
Couper, Mr. Pat Graham and
Rev. George Youmatoff with
the congregation and choir
singing between each reading.
Rev. Youmatoff favoured with
a beautiful solo, "0 Holy
Night". During the service the
Creche, given to the Church by
the sisters of the late Mrs. Ger-
trude Gairdner, was dedicated.
Sunday -afternoon, Dec. 22,
an enjoyable Christmas Con-
cert was staged by the pupils, of
Trinity.Church Sunday School,
and their teachers. Santa
arrived and distributed gifts
and treats to the children. A
delicious "lunch was served by
the. Ladies Guild who solely
sponsor the event each year.
