A. Welcome Guest.
Viok's Floral Guide for 1886, the pioneer
seed annual of America, Domes to us this
year a real gem, not a dry list roof botanical
names, but over thirty pages of reading
matter, amcng which are articles on roses,
house plants, cheap greenhouse, onion cal -
tura, mushrooms, manures, young gardeners,
and every interesting reading, followed by
150 pages containing illustrations, descrip-
tions and prises of seemingly everything the
heart could desire in the line of seeds, plants,
bulbs, potatoes, etc. It is a mystery how
this firm can afford to publish, and really
give away, this besu iful work of nearly 200
pages of finest paper, with `hundreds of
illustrations and two fine coloured plates,
all enclosed iu an elegent Dover. Any one
desiring goods in this line cannot do better
than send 10 cents for the Floral Guide, to

/carnival.
Another grand carnival was held in the
roller rink on Tuesday evening. Owing to
the extreme coolness of the weather, there
were not as many present as on previous oc-
casions, although the crowd was by no means
small. There was a good number of skaters
in.costume, and the competition for prizes
waslkeen. In the five -mile race for the sil-
ver medal there wore a great many entries,
but the number narrowed down to George
.Eacrett and Johh Veil. For about 70 laps the
taros skated along even at times, and occasi-
onally passed each other, until finally Veil
took first place and held it until the finish,
beating his opponent about half a lap. The
married men's race was not so keenly con-
tested, and was easily won by John Hynd-
man. The competition for prizes caused
more excitement and interest among the
spectators than any of the previous carnivals.
