Two Substantial Bequests Win
Assist the Sooiety
Its Work
The annual meeting oe the senior
held "at the home of rs. George
Schaefer on Tuesday afternoon, Decem-
ber Oth.
The president, 'Mrs. A. EL Erskine,
was in Charge of the worship .service,
which was in keeping with. the Christ-
mas season, and'Mrs, Redditt read the
Christmas story from St. Luke's Goapel.
The meetings have. been held in the
homes of the members during the year,
and have been well attended. Next
year the meetings will be held in the
church, except for the months of July
and Angust,
'Excellent reports were given by the
secretaries of the various departments -
Mrs. C. Edward,, welcome and welfare
secretary, reported that 721 calls had
been ''inade during th.e year on sick
and shut-in members of the congrega-
tion. 'Mrs. C. K. Saila rs, cofrespond-
ing secretary, reporte that thirty-
one letters had b.een written. Mrs. Mc-
Laren, life member secretary, reported
that $40, had been reeeived for this ,
fund from the- calendars that were
given mit in .lanuary. Mrs. R. Bisset
reported 77 subscriptions to "Glad
Tidings." Some subscriptions had been
lost through ..death and removal, but
new ones had been received to bring
the total up to last year. Mrs. W.
Bisset, supply secretary, reported that
the allocation of $20 for supplies had
been received. Mrs. W. 0. MacEwan;
literature and library secretarY, re-
ported that, two large shipments of
books and magazines for men had been
shipped to Frontier College, and study
books and- other literature had been
purchased by the members during the
year. Mrs. J. W. Smith, home helper
secretary, reparted a successful year.
Three had beceme active members and
others had _taken .their place. There
are fifty-two home helpers,; -with con-
tributions amounting to $81, and
sixteen are subscribers to "Glad Tid-
Allocation Reached
The treasurer, Mrs. H. C. Dunlop, re-
ported a most successful, year. ,En-
velope contriinstions bad been the high-
est on record, and the allocation of $525
had 'been reached.
Mrs. A. Taylor, recording secretary,
reported that very fine meetings had
been held, with an exceptionally good
attendance. The .Society was greatly
indebted to the members who opened
their homes for the meetings, and to
those. who generously provide -d trans-
portation for those living at a distance.
Guest speakers were Miss Mary
Robertson, who gave the Easter mess-
age ; Miss Williamson, miAsionary from
India, who addressed the May meet-
ing, and Rev. R. Stewart, who gave
a • line thank -offering address ___an
"Christian Living."
The home helpers meeting was held

Mr. Ingle Walter Anderson was one
of the graduating class at Clinton
Radar Communication School on Fri-
day last, taking highest marks in his
class. Mrs. Anderson and three child-
ren reside In Goderich, but will leave
some time in January for White Horse,
Yukon, where Mr. Anderson , will be
stationed.

An appeal Was received krona the
Neighborhood Workers in Toronto, and
queathed by the late Miss Bisset to
provide. $2,5 each year for the life -H
membership fund; and at the January,
meeting an In Memoriam certificate
was presented to her sister, Mrs. R. J.
P. Walter.
. In the fall a gift of $1,000 was re-
ceived from the estate of the late
Mrs. 4. Dures, to be invested as tbe
:‘,1Ary nitres Memorial Fund," and the
interest paid to the auxiliary to per-
petuate her givirigs. -
Sympathy was extended to those
who have been bereaved. and the hope
was expressed that the coining year
may be one of blessing and inspiration
to all.
Mrilt. Gordon Bisset presided for the
election of officers. Mrs. 0. Schaefer
preselated the report of the nominating
committee and this was aceepted, The
officers for 1948 were installed. by Mrs.
Bisset, and the 'meeting closed with
prayer.

After an illness of nearly two yeah'
duration, marry C. a•'ils ager passed
away at his residence oAl West street
on December 4th. Deeeased was in
his seventy-fifth ,year and was bora
in Peel county. "P11.," as he was
"well and favorably known to a host
of friends and business associates from
coast to coastthroughout many years
_
of extensive travelling, commenced
business life in Kitchener, Ont. He
conducted a hardware, plumbing and
heating business in, that city for a
few years and upon .returning to Gode-
rich he successfully - onductect a sim-
ilar business. Being of an aggressive
nature and with -a natural desire- for
advancetnent, he closed out this busi-
ness and accepted the position of West-
ern Canada representative and heating
consultant for the J. E. Smart Co. of
Brockville, Ont. Upon acquiring an
initial interest in the -Empire Stove
and Furnace l'u. of ( )wen Sound, Out.,
he severed his association with the
tibc)ve company. A fliie practical know-
-ledge of this t.ype.of business combined
with sound business ability soon 'found
hint as general manager of this cern-
pang, a position he held until 1933,
when he assumed the presidency of the
Company. He successfully filled this.
role until a few months ago, when,
with no chance of regaining his former
health, he relinquished this office.
"Fit" was one of the original founders
of the Canadian Institute of Stove
and Furnace Manufacturers and for a
number of years was president of this
body. Some of _the rules applicable to
the installation of heating systems in
general were of his doing and were
accepted as'part of the standard code
years ago.
Mrs. Filsinger died in 1939 and he
is, survived by two children, Mrs.
Marion Warrener and Geo. A. Filsinger,
both of �Goderich, also one grandchild,"
Miss Avice Warrener of London, Ont.
The funeral, held from the Brophey
funeral home 'on Sunday afternoon,
was attended by many friends, relatives
and business associates from Goderich
and distant points. ' Many beautiful
flowers along with telegrams and let-
ters of condolence bore evidence of
I the regard in which. Mr. Filsinger was
held. The pallbearers were J. E.
Murphy, Windsor; E. N. Spry, Toronto;
S. E. Koch, Guelph ; Wm. Murdock,,.
Goderich id, Lorne Cook, Stratford, and
R. II. Christie, Owen Sound.

After a long illness Miss Frances
Welsh passed away in Alexandra .Ilos-
pital on Wednesday. December 3rd,
at the age of eighty-two _years. Miss
Welsh was born in Goderich township,
(laughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Welsh, and trained as a nurse
at "Chicago.- For many years she held
a responsible position on the staff of
Royal Alexandra ,Hospital, Edmonton:1
