The farmers passed a resolution, to be carried to a Dominion -Provincial Conference Monday, 'demanding that coarse grains be placed under control .of the Wheat Board or a similar body, that overseas contracts be renegotiated to assure a reasonable profittofarmers, and that machinery of the Agricult-urail Prices Support Act be Heade 'effective. Farmers plowed through fast -falling snow to attend one of the most success- ful pf the Huron Federation of Agri- culture meetings. They elected the fol- lowing slate of officers for the conking year: President, W. R. Lobb, R.R. 3, Clinton; first vice-president, C. R. Coultes, Beigrave-; second vice-presi- dent, R. S. At that time producers llstd a great many hogs which needed feeding. Prices went up. Feed more ' than, doubled in cost in some instances. Breeding bogs were slaughtered. Other speakers said thefarmer` was being "forced out of business" by the cost of feed. ..During the supplier, when price controls were tight, feed Was nut obtainable in. Western Ontario, indicating it was being held back somewhere. Up to the end of November, prtp, jirie farmers produced 4,000,000 bushels more coarse grains than the previous year, but it was not reaching Western Ontario. Coarse Grains Held UP When price- ceilings were removed, coarse grain became available in almost unlimited quantity at high prices.. Coarse grain reaching 'Goderich was "old grain," farmers charged, indicating that it had been stored somewhere to wait for high prices. Meanwhile, the Canadian hog market which it had been hoped would capture the British market from the Danes was being ,throttled at home by the high cost of feed. "The Western farmer doesn't like this any more than we do. It's' the speculator, not the farmer, wild is getting the- money." - "In 1{);8 the Canadian farmer was told he would have to take the short end of the stick for a short time, 'ant after the war everything would, be trade right." The farmers decided against. any "mass 'delegation" to Ottawa. They agreed on -a strongly worded resolution to be handed to the ,Domin- ion -Provincial meeting next week.
