Goderich township schools •, was held
on Friday afternoon.at Union (No. 6)

ticheol, and was favored with excellent
weather. A booth conducted by the
ladies of the Union- section sold "hot
dogs," chocolate ,nrilk and apples, -and
was well patronized. Teachers of the
nine schools taking part were No. 1,

The Town Hall anditoriMu, with
gay decOrations of Hags, flowers and
evergreens, had the appearance of a
lovely autumn garden on Saturday
afternoon when the- members of the
Cematusaity 'Nursing Registry held a'
successful "doll fair and chrysanthe-
mum ten." Attractively arranged
small tables placed about •the room
and a pretty tea table centred with
chrysanthemums accentuated the air
of pleasant 'hogfitality.
„Miss Aubra Cleaver,' president of
the Nursing Registry, - received the
guests. Pouring: tett were Mrs. J. H.
Kinkead „and Mrs. Norman Jackson
wives .of members of the board. of
directors;- Mrs. D. E. Campbell, 'presi-
dent of the Women's Hospital Auxil-
iary and weather; of Maple Leaf'
Chapter,' and Mrs. C. Stani-
forth, regent of Ahmeek Chapter,
I.O.D.E. Others. assisting- were Mrs.

There alVityS have been dulls.
Indians made thein of corn husks;
ivory, bone,. and leather ones Were
found in the tombs .of the Egyptians;
but the first ones were .made of wood.
Samples of these were in an. interest-
ing display of dolls sent in by several.
„Goderich residents, among them a tiny'
group of English -carol singers, and a.
Cuban band, each of the band holding
a diminutive instrument. There were
story -book dolts also In a pretty row
and i twelve dressed to represent each
a Mouth of the year.
In Mrs. Macklin's collection was a
doll, in fAce and figure faithfully repre-
senting His Majesty the King in full
Highland dress. A French fashion'
doll, beautifully gowned in grey With
wine -colored ruchings, was a model
of those sent eut front France in lets
of one,'%hundred. Orders were taken
from these and the dress in adttltsize-
despatelaed to the buyer. There was
a papier mache brown -eyed branette
enthroned on a high .chair, .who owns
an extensive • wardrobe of handmade
articles for all occasion's.- A Chinese
mandarin and his lady were lovely
pieces of workmanship, brought_ to
Canada by Chinese gentleman • for
his Wife. A Dutch girl from the Island
of Maikin; Holland; a demure "Meg,"
of "Little Women" fame; a pretty
Papier wache. doll .which came from
Scotland in n$20; Highlanders, Indians,
blue-eyed Victorian dolls and other
ancient ones are „included in the large
collection.
Mrs. Macklin stated- she has dif-
ficulty in securing materials suitable
for the period in dressing' the dolls and
would welcome donations of these or'
of bodies of dolls.

way up, and half -way down ;" daintily
frocked French dolls, and many others
were shown in this collection...-.
On another table Miss Wurtele dis-'
played a. suite of -handmade_ doll's
ft-in:attire, beautifully. ca-rved. consist-
ing of bure'fin. table, two chairs, A.

shown. The "Ilunnykins" 'awl scenes
on the larger set are reprodueed per-
fectly on the tiny replicas. The tea-
pot is 11/4 inches high and the cup
one-quarter of art -inch.
