Huron Presbyterial W.M.S. of the -
Presbyterian Church in Canada met
in Clinton Presbyterian chnrch on
Tuesday. May 13th, ,to hear reports
of the W.M.S.' SYnedical meeting held
recently at Stratford, and ttj plan the
work of the Presbyterial.
Representatives we,re present from,
Auburn, Clinton, „Goderich, Densaa,
Exeter and Seaforth, and the meeting
opened with a devotional period .of
meditation .and prayer conducted by
th.e Presbyterial president; Mrs. G.
Bisset. a'
The corresponding secretary, Miss 13.
-Campbell of Seaforth, gave an ex-
Cellent suimnary of the Synodical meet-
ing, thej first of its kind, with 235
delegates attending..
It was stated that there was
-wealth of material in this year's study
Book on India', and members were urged
to do their utmostto Make .W.M.S.
meetings realty interesting.
'Suggestions front departmentsecre-
taries included requests for magazines
and jigsaw puzzles for mental hospitals,
books and magazines for Frontier Col-
lege, and that good missionary .liter-
ature be passed onto the home helpers,
A, decrease in "Glad Tidings" sub-
scriptions was.noted, and as Huron had
the best record it was suggested that
it alight lead the way in.an increase of
sabscriptions next year.
New Trends in Missionary Work
Mrs. G,, Bisset gave some iteing of
interest from an address by !Mts. A.
H. MeMurrich of Toronto on "New
Trends in Missionary Work." Busi-
ness' men are gaining valuable inform-
ation from missionaries '-on furlough
front foreign countries and this is

proving very worthwhile, andare open-
ing the way to wider avenues of Christ-
ian service. St. Margaret's girls' centre
in Toronto is, helping girls whose homes
are broken up for various reasons, to
get training that will tit them to be
good citizens. Mrs. MeMurrich also

spoke of the work being- opened up
agatu in Formosa and China and asked
for the prayers of all W.M.S. members
for the missionaries over there.
Mrs. Dunlop fuOved a vote of thanks
to the president and secretary for their
tine rewts, and in the business ses-
sion which followed the treasurer's re-'
port Showed a balance in the general
fund of $(1S0.50, all increase on last

lecture given by Major Duncan, M.B.E..
in the Bapttst church on Wednesday
night. of last weelt iVerii`given a rare
treat. The films were beautihily

instructive and entertaining. •
• Major Duncan' is a fluent speaker
.and he °interjected many humorous in-
cidents in his aildress. Lie was in-
troduced by the pastor of the church,
Rev. ° G. W. Medley, a fellow -padre
in the last ware
The address was entitled "England's
Green and Pleasant Land," and it was
Uie ,story of British churches in stone
and color. The speaker took his audi-
ence on it picture trip to England and
Scotland and concluded his address
with, pictures of cemeteries in whiCia
are ule.graes -of Canada's, beloved
dead in England and in Italy., ,
° Ile showed the lovely gardens on
estates in England ,where Canadian
troops were quartered ; the dilapidated
tents in which they lived for i time.
Typical villages, and farms, among
them one farm of fields of lavender;
centuries-old Manor hauses, and last,
but by no means least,,, the ancient,
cathedrals and churches, some of which
were built before the Norman con-
quest; Edith. Otivell's tomb at Nor-
wich; Winchester Cathedral where
early kings of England were crowned.

scenes made famous in history.
The lecture was delightful in every
respect, and was worthy of a muexi
larger patronage.
