The Town Council of 1947 held its 0
inaugural meeting on Monday morning,
the members being •sworn into office
by, Crown Attorney D. E. Holmes. All
the mein ere were present, namely,
Mayor D. Ij Mooney, Reeve Geo. G.
MacEwan, Deputy Reeve Geo. Mathie-
son, and Councillors Clayton Edward,
Earl Elliott, John L. Iluckins, Arthur
Kaitting, Joseph Moody and Thomas
Taylor.
After the official ceremony , Mr.
Mimes addressed the Council briefly,
wishing the members "the best of luck"
in dealing with the affairs of the Town.
After_. the Mayor's inaugural address
(published elsewhere) , Coun. Judkins
took the floor and gave what he termed
s "personal views" on the question
of the proposed new publie school build-
ing. The project would cost consider-
able money and he thought it had not
been properly explained to the rate-
payers. When things were so un-
settted, and material in scarce supply
and of poor quality, he thought it an
unsuitable time to proceed with such
a building. He proposed that the
Council should --call a special Meeting,
